All 123 Material Palettes in Creatures of Sonaria

Updated on (9 days ago)

Material palettes retexture your creature: foil crinkles, magma rock, forcefield shells, gold trophy shine, and full themed looks. They work alongside color palettes, which only change hue slots. Use the cards here to compare how each material looks, where it comes from, and whether dying with it costs an Appearance Change Token.

Material Override vs Signature Look vs Theme

Three types show up on creature cards, and the difference matters before you spend Shooms or Robux.

Material Overrides swap the body texture while keeping your chosen colors. Concrete, Foil, Glass, and most shop overrides let you paint all four color slots yourself. Most overrides also need an Appearance Change Token if your creature dies while wearing one, so treat them like a commitment on your main slot.

Signature Looks and Themes ship with four preset colors. Star-marked slots can add particles or different materials per color, but you do not pick free-form hues. They skip the death token penalty, which makes them safer for creatures you expect to lose in fights. Trading a Signature Look triggers a confirmation prompt because the look is baked in.

Forcefield is the odd override out: it keeps your colors but does not require a token on death, same as Signature Looks.

Where materials come from

RouteWhat to expect
Standard shopAlways-open mats from the rocky + icon in the creature editor or Shop → Materials. Mix of Shoom, Robux, and Tikit prices. Several Standard mats also drop from Event Tokens during seasonal events.
Shoom PileRandom Signature Looks from Shoom Pile mission rewards. No fixed price: grind missions and hope the pile pays out.
Realm-ExclusiveAquatic Realm daily missions grant looks like Oceanic and Fatal Fin only while you are in that realm loop.
Seasonal eventsEvent shops and missions sell looks and overrides for Shooms or event currency. Costs can shift year to year; each card shows the latest known price and names the event for filtering.
Redeem codesDiscord and social codes that are mostly expired now. Items still trade on stored creatures if someone redeemed them in time.
Limited missions and bundlesGleaming Abyss, Silver Ripple, and Sparkling Eye tie to limited missions or Robux bundles. Mission completion is free; bundles are the pay shortcut.
MerchandiseReal-money Twin Atlas items (hoodies, pins, blankets) unlock materials through the in-game merch shop. USD prices can change on the store.

Violet Flame and other shrine rewards sit in Standard availability but drop from Shadow Shrine donations at random chance, not a flat shop price.

Death, revive, and customization

Equipping a material palette does not count as a customization action. A default-colored creature can still swap gender or run other editor changes without burning an Appearance Change Token first.

After death, most Material Overrides need a token to return the creature (and its material) to your inventory. Signature Looks, Themes, Forcefield, and most merch signature looks skip that fee. Check the Token on death field on each card before you roll a risky fight in expensive foil.

Materials stack with Glimmer mutation. They do not pass through nesting to offspring.

Picking and trading

Materials are tradable standalone or on stored creatures. For overrides, you keep color control, so they fit custom dye jobs and resale builds. Signature Looks trade as fixed art pieces: great for collectors, less flexible if you want your own palette.

When an event mat also appears in Standard (Concrete and Granite accept Event Tokens), you can wait for the event route or buy straight from the shop. Event-only rows leave the shop when the event ends, so check Status and Event before the window closes.

Common mistakes

  • Assuming every override needs a death token (Forcefield and Signature Looks break that rule).
  • Confusing material palettes with color palettes. Color palettes recolor slots; materials change texture and sometimes lock colors entirely.
  • Ignoring Color control: Phantom and similar looks use preset colors, not your custom dye.
  • Buying merch for a material without checking whether it is an override (token on death) or a signature look (no token).
  • Listing a Shoom Pile drop with a fixed price. Those rows show no shop cost on purpose.

Seasonal event shop and mission materials grouped here. Use the Event field on each card to filter by holiday or collab when several events are listed together.

FAQ

Q.

What is the difference between a material palette and a color palette?

Color palettes change the hue of your creature's color slots. Material palettes change texture, shine, particles, or entire preset looks (gold trophy skin, magma rock, forcefield shell). You can run both at once, and materials work with Glimmer mutation.

Q.

Do I need an Appearance Change Token if my creature dies with a material?

Most Material Overrides yes. Signature Looks, Themes, Forcefield, and most merch signature looks no. Check the Token on death field on the card before you take a high-risk creature into PvP with an override equipped.

Q.

Can I still customize my creature after equipping a material?

Yes. Equipping a material does not count as a customization action, so default-colored creatures can still use the editor (including gender swap) without spending a token first.

Q.

Can material palettes be traded?

Yes. Materials trade on their own or on stored creatures. Signature Looks show a confirmation when traded because the preset look stays attached.

Q.

Why do some Standard materials mention Event Tokens?

Several always-available shop overrides (like Concrete and Granite) can also drop when you open Event Tokens during seasonal events. The card lists both the direct shop price and the token route when both exist.

Q.

Do materials pass to nested offspring?

No. Materials cannot be inherited through nesting. You need to apply or trade the material separately on each creature you want to wear it.
