All 8 Traits in Creatures of Sonaria

Updated on (9 days ago)

Permanent traits are hidden stat rolls that stick with your creature for life. They show up as colored hex markers on your creature card, separate from cosmetic mutations like Glimmer or Albinism. You get up to two traits per creature: one around age 66 and another after age 100. Each trait bumps a real combat or survival stat, and Elder veneration can push those boosts higher if you live long enough.

How trait rolls work

Traits roll during natural growth or when you hatch from another player's nest. The first roll happens at age 66. If you still have an open trait slot, a second roll can appear once you pass age 100. You can never hold more than two traits on one creature, and you cannot roll the same trait twice on the same slot.

Nesting is the fast path. Hatching in someone else's nest often gives you both traits right away instead of waiting through two growth windows. Many players stop a creature at age 66, nest it, and hatch the offspring to hunt for a specific combo without grinding the full adult timeline on every attempt.

Traits vs cosmetic mutations

Traits and cosmetic mutations are separate systems. Cosmetic mutations change how your creature looks. Traits change numbers under the hood. Growth tokens skip cosmetic mutation rolls, but traits can still appear after one in-game growth tick once the age threshold is met.

Base traits persist when you restart your creature slot at no shoom cost. Ascended trait boosts from Elder veneration do not carry over after a death restart, so plan veneration around a creature you intend to keep alive.

Elder veneration upgrades

At age 200 and beyond, Elder veneration lets you ascend one trait per stage when your creature has two traits. Each trait climbs through five veneration tiers, with bigger jumps on stats like HP regen and stamina regen than on bite cooldown or speed. The card fields show the base boost and the stage V ceiling so you can see how much room is left to grow.

Picking traits by build role

GoalStrong picksWhy
PvP damageBite + DamageFaster bite cooldown stacks with higher hit damage for aggressive trades
Tank / knockbackWeight + HealthExtra weight for presence plus faster passive HP recovery between fights
Mobile hunterSpeed + Max StaminaChase pressure across all movement modes with a bigger stamina pool for long pursuits
Aerial sustainStamina Regen + HealthFaster glide and ground stamina recovery with steady HP regen uptime
Support healerHealing + HealthStronger ally healing on Healing Hunter creatures with passive recovery backing it up

Combat traits (Bite, Damage, Weight) share the red category marker. Mobility traits (Speed, Max Stamina) use blue. Regeneration traits (Health, Healing, Stamina Regen) use green. Category color matches the in-game popup, which makes it easy to spot what kind of roll you got at a glance.

Common mistakes

Rolling past age 66 on a wild-grown creature without checking your trait slot wastes nesting efficiency if you wanted a clean hatch reroll. Using growth tokens expecting instant traits can disappoint: tokens affect cosmetic rolls, not trait timing. Chasing Healing on a creature without Healing Hunter is impossible, so check your species abilities before you nest. Investing Elder veneration on a creature you plan to death-restart soon loses those ascended values, even though the base trait stays free on slot restart.

FAQ

Q.

Can a creature have two of the same trait?

No. Each creature can hold at most two different traits. You cannot roll duplicate Bite, Damage, or any other trait on the same slot.

Q.

Do traits stay after I restart my creature?

Base traits persist on slot restart at no shoom cost. Ascended boosts from Elder veneration do not persist after a death restart, so those upgraded values reset even though the trait itself remains.

Q.

Do growth tokens give me traits?

Growth tokens skip cosmetic mutation rolls, not trait rolls. Traits still appear on their normal age schedule (66 and 100+) or when hatching from a nest, sometimes after one growth tick even if a token was used.

Q.

What is the difference between traits and mutations?

Traits are permanent stat modifiers shown as colored hex markers. Mutations are mostly cosmetic appearance changes. They roll independently, so you can have both a visual mutation and stat traits on the same creature.

Q.

Can any creature roll the Healing trait?

No. Healing is limited to creatures with the Healing Hunter ability. Every other trait in this collection can roll on any creature, though Healing Hunter species have slightly lower odds on the general trait pool.

Q.

When can I ascend traits through Elder veneration?

At age 200 and above, Elder veneration offers one trait ascension choice per stage when your creature has two traits. Each trait climbs through five tiers, with the card showing how much the boost grows at each step.
