All 33 Units in Anime Expeditions

Updated on (1 day ago)

Units are the fighters you summon, place on the path, upgrade mid-run, and sometimes evolve into stronger forms. Each one brings a rarity, an element, a Physical/Magical/Psychic damage type, and a kit that either deals damage, stalls the wave, buffs allies, farms Yen, or floods the lane with summons. Comparing those pieces side by side is how you build a lineup that actually covers a stage instead of stacking five similar carries.

Anime Expeditions is a tower defense loop built around who you pull and how you spend on them. You roll banners for units, place them along enemy paths, upgrade during waves, and pair kits so damage, control, and support cover each other. Traits and equipment stack on top later, but the unit choice is still the first real decision every run.

How rarity and banners fit together

Rarity is the clearest filter for what you can pull and what is worth investing gold into.

  • Rare and Epic are early story fillers. Most of them have no real passive kit, so treat them as temporary path coverage until better pulls land.
  • Legendary is where simple, reliable kits show up: boss-focused damage, freeze, Yen farm, debuff shields, and the big Physical or Magical auras.
  • Mythic is the main progression band. These kits get real identity: burn spread, cocoons, charge spells, ally-copy attacks, giant form, and other mid-fight tools.
  • Exclusive sits outside the open banner pool. Expect Battle Pass, tournament, Beginner Path, or other limited routes instead of a normal pity pull.
  • Secret is the top summon tier. Secret summons unlock around account level 10, then appear on Standard or Mini banners.

Banner type still matters. Beginner Banner is how a lot of accounts first see strong Mythics and True Saint. Standard and Mini banners feed the wider pool once you are past the intro path. Pity thresholds can help, but they do not replace reading the kit before you dump upgrade gold into a unit that does not match your damage type.

Physical, Magical, and why supports matter

Damage type is not flavor text. The Hero buffs Physical units in range. Forbidden Teacher does the same for Magical units. Both auras grow as you upgrade the support.

That means team building has a real fork:

PlanWhat you lean onSupport anchor
Physical stackCarries like Scissor, Greed, Reaper, Hollow, Cursed StudentThe Hero
Magical stackCarries like Shadow, Crimson, Elf Mage, Flame Emperor, String DemonForbidden Teacher
Mixed or PsychicUnits like Toy Maker and PuppetUsually no shared aura; win on kit synergy instead

Element (Flame, Hydro, Dark, Light, Wind/Gale, Terra, Neutral, and similar tags) helps you group burn partners, control options, and flavor matches, but the Physical vs Magical aura split is the part that changes who you place next to whom. If your board is half Physical and half Magical, those aura supports waste a big chunk of their value.

Roles worth building around

You do not need every role on every stage, but empty holes feel bad fast.

  • DPS clears the path. Look for ramp, burn conversion, boss bonus, or multi-hit kits rather than raw rarity alone.
  • Crowd control buys time. Slow, Freeze, Stagger, cocoon, and rewind tools let expensive carries finish casts.
  • Support multiplies the team: Magical/Physical auras, debuff shields, mark amplification, or ally-copy setups.
  • Summoners place extra bodies or spirits (Shadow spirits, Toy Maker toys, dolls, bat spirits) so the path is not a single target.
  • Economy speeds upgrades. Ramen Guy is the clear Yen-from-kills pick later; early Epic farm placeholders are just that, placeholders.

A clean early board often looks like one reliable DPS, one control piece, and either a support or a farm unit. Once Mythics and Legendaries land, swap the fillers out instead of upgrading them forever.

Evolution without overcommitting

Some units evolve in the Upgrades room with colored Evolution Sprites, Rainbow Sprites, gold, and a unit-specific item (Holy Pendant, Student ID, Salmon, Burning Fruit, Puppet Heart, Cosmic Magic, and similar materials). The evolved form is usually the name you see on unit cards with a suffix like Divine, True Love, or Unleashed.

Useful habits:

  • Evolve units you already play, not every recipe you unlock.
  • Farm sprites on content you can clear cleanly so gold and materials do not stall your main clears.
  • Read the post-evo passive and active before spending rare items. Evolution is a commitment, not a free stat bump for every unit on the roster.

Several strong forms already show a form suffix on the unit name even when no separate base-to-evo recipe is listed. Treat that displayed form as the playable identity, and check the evolution field when a recipe exists.

Common mistakes

  • Upgrading Rare/Epic fillers deep into the run. Once you have a Mythic or solid Legendary, sell or replace the starter and put gold into the real kit.
  • Ignoring damage type. Dropping The Hero next to a Magical-heavy board (or Forbidden Teacher next to Physical carries) is an easy silent loss.
  • Stacking only pure damage. Stages with denser waves punish boards with no slow, freeze, cocoon, or stall. One control unit often saves more gold than a third samey DPS.
  • Skipping Exclusive routes that are free for new accounts. True Saint is strongly tied to Beginner Path and is one of the first strong limited units many players can lock in without waiting on Secret luck.
  • Chasing every limited Exclusive at once. Crimson, Toy Maker, and other event-style units are powerful, but missing one banner is not the end of progression if your core Mythic and Legendary roles are covered.
  • Treating one exact passive number as permanent truth. Launch numbers can shift. Trust the kit idea (marks, auras, burn spread, farm) more than a single percentage until you verify it in a run.

Practical progression path

  1. Clear early stages with whatever Rare and Epic units the banner gives you.
  2. Grab Beginner Path rewards, including True Saint when it is available, and start pulling Mythics from the Beginner Banner.
  3. Build toward either a Physical or Magical core so The Hero or Forbidden Teacher has a job.
  4. Add one control tool (Salmon Sorcerer, Ice Queen, String Demon, or similar) before you triple down on damage.
  5. Evolve the units that already carry your clears, then layer traits and equipment once the board identity is stable.

Units keep changing as the game grows, so build habits around roles, damage type, and upgrade discipline instead of locking onto one "forever" lineup.

FAQ

Q.

How do you unlock Secret units in Anime Expeditions?

Secret summons usually open around account level 10. After that, Secrets can appear on Standard or Mini banners. They are not the same as Exclusive rewards, which use limited routes instead of the open Secret pool.

Q.

What is the difference between Physical and Magical units?

Damage type decides which aura support helps you. The Hero buffs Physical units in range. Forbidden Teacher buffs Magical units in range. Psychic units sit outside those two auras and win more on their own kit. Building mostly one damage type makes those supports worth placing.

Q.

How does unit evolution work?

Open the Upgrades flow and use Evolve when a unit has a recipe. You spend colored Evolution Sprites, Rainbow Sprites, gold, and often a unit-specific item. The evolved form keeps the same unit identity with a stronger form name and passive. Not every unit can evolve.

Q.

Do Epic and Rare units have passives?

Most do not. Treat them as early fillers until better pulls arrive. Ice Mage is the one Epic sometimes described with a short movement slow, so check it in-game if that control matters to you.

Q.

How do you get True Saint?

True Saint is an Exclusive strongly tied to Beginner Path and early exclusive progression rewards. It is one of the first strong limited units new accounts can secure without waiting on Secret luck, then it can evolve into True Saint (Holy) with the Holy Pendant and sprites.

Q.

Should you evolve every unit that has a recipe?

No. Evolve the units that already carry your clears. Sprites, gold, and unique items are limited early on, and a strong unused form helps less than finishing the evolution on your main DPS, control piece, or support.

Q.

What should a beginner board focus on first?

Cover the path with early Rare and Epic units, take Beginner Path rewards, then push toward a Mythic carry and either Physical or Magical support. Add one control tool before you stack three pure damage units, and replace starters instead of maxing them forever.
