Maps unlock in a straight line. Finish every act on the current Story map and the next one opens. School Grounds is open from the start; everything after it follows that clear-all-acts chain through Flower Forest, Rose Kingdom, Fairy King Forest, and King's Tomb.
When you are deciding where to spend runs, check each map's food, standard gear, and unit exclusives first. Food is the map's unit XP feed. Standard equipment is universal gear tied to that map. Unit equipment is exclusive to the listed target units and is the main reason most players camp a zone after they unlock it.
Unit exclusives drop on Mastery clears for that map at a 5% chance with 20 pity. If drops are cold, you can also craft the same exclusive pieces at Armory Forge in the Expedition Hub. Do not treat the Mastery rate as a promise for food or standard gear; the 5% / 20 pity rule only applies to unit exclusive Mastery drops.
Early on, School Grounds is a strong farm because it carries two exclusives (Promise Ring and Technique Amplifier) plus Cursed Boba and Kunai. Mid chain, Rose Kingdom is another dual-exclusive stop for Flame Emperor and String Demon. Later maps shift to single-target exclusives like Hollow's Hell's Flower, Lady Giant and Puppet's pair in Fairy King Forest, and Elf Mage's Elven Battle Staff in King's Tomb.
Challenge Mode is worth cycling on maps you already know. You keep the same reward identity while modifiers change the fight, which is handy for XP and materials without learning a brand-new layout. Raids and TBA gear routes sit outside the story map progression, so those drops are not part of this chain.
