Equipment is the permanent loadout layer on top of units in Anime Expeditions. Standard pieces pad damage, SPA, range, and other rolls for anyone. Unit-specific pieces lock to an evolved form and add combat passives that change how that unit fights. Farm Story maps and Mastery, craft at the Armory Forge when you can, then chase better rolls with Equipment Reroll and Equipment Lock.

Think of equipment as two jobs. Standard gear fills slots on any unit and covers gaps while you climb Story maps. Unit-specific gear is the real power spike: it only equips on the named evolved form, and the passive is usually why you farm it at all.

Most exclusives drop on that unit's Mastery route at a low chance with pity, and many also craft at the Armory Forge in the Expedition Hub. If drops are dry, craft is the backup path. Hexed Blade is the craft-first outlier: no Story map drop is listed, so plan materials instead of grinding a map for it.

What to farm when

  • Early maps: pick up standard pieces (Kunai, Katana, Magic Orb, and so on) so every unit gets a clean damage, SPA, range, or type-damage pad.
  • Once a unit evolves: farm its exclusive on that map's Mastery (or Spirit City Raid Act 1 Mastery for the raid pair), or craft it if you have the materials.
  • Later: Shinigami Sword is standard for any unit but harder to pin down. Some guides still list the exact drop as TBA; others point at Spirit City Raid Hard at a low chance. Treat it as a raid hunt, not a normal Story farm.

Rolls and passives

Dropped gear comes with rollable stat ranges (for example damage, SPA, or range bands). Equipment Reroll (Gold Shop and other shops) rerolls those numbers. Equipment Lock holds the stats you want while you chase the rest. Published values on a few pieces (Hair Bells, Spirit of the Moonblade, Shinigami Sword) can look like fixed samples rather than full ranges, so do not treat every number as a hard cap.

Passives are where exclusives earn their keep:

  • Summon and wall tools (Promise Ring bats, Boulder stone walls, Calamity's Eye dolls, Hexed Blade's Winged Spirit after Upgrade 3) add extra bodies or blocks that scale off the unit's damage.
  • Status engines (Hell's Flower burn conversion, Emperor's Attire burn spread, Technique Amplifier attack-linked Slow, Webbed Fruit cocoons) reward kits that already apply those effects.
  • Spell and strike layers (Elven Battle Staff charge thresholds, Hair Bells aura plus stun cleanse, Spirit of the Moonblade type adaptation, Shinigami Sword in-range stacking damage) change how the unit spends fights rather than only padding a stat line.

Easy mistakes

  • Farming an exclusive before the unit can evolve: most unit gear needs the evolved form before it equips.
  • Putting exclusives on the wrong unit: the lock is real; standard pieces are the flexible fillers.
  • Ignoring craft: Armory Forge is not flavor text on most exclusives. If Mastery pity is long, craft can finish the set.
  • Overreading sample rolls: chase ranges with Reroll when the card shows a band; fixed-looking lines may just be one published roll.

Match the piece to the unit's kit. A burn spreader on a non-burn unit wastes the passive, and a summon exclusive on a unit you never place is just inventory weight.

What is the difference between standard and unit-specific equipment?

Standard equipment can go on any unit and mostly offers stat rolls. Unit-specific equipment only equips on its bound evolved unit and adds a unique combat passive on top of those rolls.

Do I need to evolve a unit before using its exclusive gear?

Yes for most exclusives. Unit-locked pieces are tied to the evolved form, so unlock that form before you expect to equip the gear.

How do Mastery drops and pity work for exclusives?

Many unit-specific pieces list a Mastery drop at 5% chance with 20 pity on the matching map or raid act. That means low chance per clear, with a pity safety net if you keep farming that Mastery route.

What is the Armory Forge for?

Armory Forge in the Expedition Hub is the craft path for most exclusives (and Crafting Station is listed for Hexed Blade). Use it when you would rather spend materials than wait on Mastery drops.

How do Equipment Reroll and Equipment Lock work?

Reroll refreshes the gear's stat rolls (often bought with Gold or found in shops and challenges). Lock holds the rolls you like so later rerolls do not wipe the good numbers.

Where does Shinigami Sword drop?

Guides do not fully agree. Some still list the drop as TBA, while others report Spirit City Raid Hard at about 3.5%. It is standard gear (any unit) with crit stats and a passive that stacks damage per enemy in range.
