Subject 8 is a limited Secret unit from Anime Expeditions' Monster Clash event, but clearing Monster Clash is only the first part of the route. You need the helicopter that can appear after a clear to reach Monster Rift, where the unit is reported to drop. After that, you can spend Sprites and Gold in the lobby to evolve Subject 8 into Subject 8 (Monster).
Here's the full event route, the reported helicopter and Rift outcomes, and the exact materials and Gold options for the Monster form.
Who is Subject 8 in Anime Expeditions?
Subject 8 arrived with Update 3.5 as a limited Secret unit tied to the Monster Clash event. The base unit has the Storm element and Physical typing, while its named evolved form is Subject 8 (Monster). You must obtain the base unit before the evolution recipe becomes useful.
| Unit detail | What to know |
|---|---|
| Rarity | Secret |
| Availability | Limited Monster Clash event |

How to get Subject 8 in Anime Expeditions
Monster Clash is the entry point, but the important transition happens after you clear it. Follow these steps to reach Monster Rift:

- Enter Monster Clash from the lobby. Find the Subject 8 (Monster) NPC in the main lobby and interact with it to choose Monster Clash.
- Clear all 15 waves. Monster Clash has two paths and supports up to four players. Watch both lanes because enemies can merge near the center. Place coverage where the paths meet so one side does not collapse while you focus on the other.
- Wait for the helicopter. Stay in the stage after a successful clear. A helicopter may appear and land, and the host must interact with it to take the team to Monster Rift. The stage does not automatically restart while you wait.
- Clear Monster Rift. Enter the Rift through the helicopter and finish the stage to claim the Subject 8 reward.
The helicopter is reported to have a 4% chance to appear after a Monster Clash clear. Treat 4% as a reported rate rather than an official guarantee, and repeat the event if the helicopter does not show up. A successful Monster Rift clear is also reported to guarantee Subject 8, so the uncertain part of the route is reaching the Rift rather than making another unit roll after you enter it.
Subject 8 Monster evolution requirements in Anime Expeditions
The Monster form needs 75 colored Sprites in total, 3 Rainbow Sprites, and 10,000 Gold. Gather the following amounts before you open the evolution menu:
| Material | Amount needed |
|---|---|
| Sprite (Green) | 25 |
| Sprite (Blue) | 25 |
| Sprite (Pink) | 25 |
| Sprite (Rainbow) | 3 |
| Gold | 10,000 |
Grey Sprites come from regular, Daily, and Weekly Challenges, Mastery Stages, and crafting rewards. At the Crafting Station, 5 Grey Sprites convert into a colored Sprite, while 30 Grey Sprites convert into a Rainbow Sprite. Because challenges can also award colored and Rainbow Sprites directly, do not treat a single Grey Sprite total as an extra required cost.
Gold comes from Story mode, raids, Challenges, quests, level milestones, shops, selling units, and the AFK Chamber. Before Level 20, the documented options include Story Mode, Daily and Weekly Quests, duplicate-unit sales, and the AFK Chamber. Once you unlock Expeditions at Level 20, the Expedition Gold Mine provides a passive Gold option. The Anime Expeditions items collection has the broader Sprite and Gold reference.
How to evolve Subject 8 into Subject 8 (Monster)
Use the lobby's Upgrades area once you have the base unit and the listed resources:
- Go to Upgrades in the main lobby.
- Open the Evolve section. Press
Eat the interaction prompt. - Select Subject 8. Choose the base unit you obtained from Monster Rift, then check that the Evolve panel lists the materials and Gold cost shown above.
- Press Evolve Unit. Confirm the action to turn Subject 8 into Subject 8 (Monster).
If Subject 8 does not appear in the panel, return to the Monster Clash route and make sure you cleared Monster Rift and received the base unit. If the helicopter did not appear after your last clear, run Monster Clash again and stay through the post-clear wait. Since Monster Clash is a limited event, check the live Evolve panel before spending the materials if the event or recipe changes.
