Every unit in Anime Expeditions carries exactly one Element. Combat Elements set the damage type you deal into stage modifiers and enemy resists. Farm is the odd one out: it earns Yen each wave instead of swinging for typed damage. Elements also sit next to Archetypes on the unit card, so you build teams by typing and kit, not by Element alone.

Elements
Combat Elements set typed damage into Resistance, Mirror, and enemy resist rules. Farm is the economy Element for Yen per wave and is shut off by No Farms. Elements pair with Archetypes on each unit, so mix types for modifier stages rather than stacking one Element.

Element is a fixed identity on the unit, not a swap mid-fight. When you place a unit, its Element is what Resistance, Mirror, and enemy resist tables look at.
Resistance, Mirror, and No Farms
Resistance rotates through Flame, Hydro, Gale, Terra, Light, Storm, and Dark every 30 seconds. When the active resist matches a unit's Element, that unit's damage gets cut. Spread combat Elements across your team so one cycle does not silence your whole board.
Neutral and Farm sit outside that seven-step loop. Neutral still deals Neutral damage and can show up in Mirror planning. Farm never joins the Resistance list.
Mirror makes enemies copy the Elements of units you have deployed and treat those as resistances. If your whole field is Flame, Mirror turns into a Flame-check. Mix Elements (and watch what is actually placed) before you lean on one typed carry.
No Farms disables Farm units for that stage. Leave Ramen Guy and Stone Alchemist on the bench when that modifier is live, and bring combat income or different economy tools instead.
Enemy Resistances multiply Element damage against specific types. Read the stage table and pick typed damage that still hits hard under those multipliers.
Building mixed teams
| Need | Lean on |
|---|---|
| Survive Resistance stages | Several of the seven combat Elements, not one mono stack |
| Mirror stages | Diverse deployed Elements so enemies do not all resist the same type |
| Yen income waves | Farm units when No Farms is off |
| Neutral coverage | Neutral damage dealers (outside the Resistance cycle) |
Pair Element coverage with Archetypes (Physical, Magical, Psychic) and the unit's actual kit. A Hydro Magical carry and a Hydro Physical tank fill different jobs even when they share a type.
Easy mistakes
- Mono-Element teams on Resistance or Mirror stages: one cycle or one Mirror copy can blunt everything you placed.
- Treating Neutral or Farm as Resistance cycle members: they are not in the Flame-to-Dark loop.
- Bringing Farm into a No Farms stage: those units are disabled for the run.
- Ignoring example unit lists when you need a type filler: each Element card lists sourced members so you can see who actually covers that type.
FAQ
How many Elements does each unit have?
Exactly one. A unit keeps that Element for damage typing and stage interactions; you do not swap Elements mid-fight.
What is the Resistance cycle order?
Flame, then Hydro, Gale, Terra, Light, Storm, and Dark, advancing every 30 seconds. Neutral and Farm are not in that rotation.
Does Mirror affect Neutral units?
Mirror copies Elements from units you deploy and turns those into enemy resistances. Neutral units still place Neutral into that copy list when they are on the field, even though Neutral is outside the Resistance cycle.
What does the No Farms modifier do?
It disables Farm units for that stage. Skip Ramen Guy and Stone Alchemist when No Farms is active, and plan Yen another way.
Is Farm a damage Element?
No. Farm units generate Yen at the end of every wave instead of focusing on combat typed damage. They are the economy Element, not a Resistance-cycle damage type.
Do Elements replace Archetypes?
No. Each unit has an Element and an Archetype. Element covers typed damage and stage modifiers; Archetype covers the Physical, Magical, or Psychic side of the kit. Build with both in mind.
