How to get the Halibut Harpoon Gun in Fisch

Updated on August 17, 2026 (9 days ago)

The Halibut Harpoon is Fisch's Version 1.97 fishing rod and Harpoon Gun hybrid. It looks like a glowing blue halibut with a rusty skeletal launcher and a tiny black top hat, and it comes from Dr. Monty's questline in The Deep, not a shop drop.

You need The Deep open first. Use how to enter The Deep in Fisch for the sail, ship, and dive, then head to Monty's lab in the Outer Deep. This is not the Scrap-Cannon path with Sledge, and it is not the Sightless Oracle path with The Blind Oracle. After three riddles, plan for a long multi-stage pufferfish grind, including a real-time wait later in the line.

What the Halibut Harpoon is

Halibut Harpoon, a glowing blue fish fitted with a skeletal harpoon launcher and black top hat

It is a fishing rod and Harpoon Gun hybrid with a unique passive minigame. Players report roughly 132% Lure Speed, 288% Luck, 0.1 Control, 56% Resilience, and infinite Max kg once it is fully unlocked. It can also roll Thalassic, Bathyal, or Hadal mutations (about 20% each on those limited rolls).

Find Dr. Monty in Outer Deep and answer his riddles

Swim to the Outer Deep cluster near Beacon 1P-2. GPS is (461, -2002, -13150.2). Look for blue dome buildings around that beacon. The Cartographer is a solid landmark; the glowing lab window sits behind that area.

Outer Deep blue dome buildings with glowing windows at Dr. Monty lab cluster

Enter the first building through a glowing window, not a normal door. Inside Monty's Lab, talk to Dr. Monty next to the board (whiteboard). If he offers a line about adding a new rod to your collection, take it to open the riddles.

Wrong answers can waste you and force a full trip back. Answer carefully in one sitting.

The goggobites gather for what?Hubbermistchen
What is the base value of a Sparkling Shiny Aether Pufferfish?13,388.82 C$
What is my favorite color?Orange

If Hubbermistchen rejects, try Hubbermeisterchen. You do not need to catch a Sparkling Shiny Aether Pufferfish for the middle riddle. The game wants the base value number. Quick math check: base Pufferfish 326 C$ × Aether 12× × Sparkling 1.85× × Shiny 1.85× lands on 13,388.82. For the color, type Orange (or the exact prompt text if it shows a trailing "...?").

Complete Dr. Monty's pufferfish quests for the Halibut Harpoon

After the riddles, Monty chains several pufferfish missions. Turn fish in as objectives clear. When any written list disagrees with your screen, trust the in-game quest tracker.

Quest 1: Pufferfish Abroad. Catch and return 10 of each species below. Usual spots, bait, and season help a lot.

Fish (×10)Where to farmTips
PufferfishRoslit Bay, The OceanSeaweed bait, Summer
Flying PufferfishAbove The CloudsSeaweed bait, Summer
Blight PufferfishToxic GroveWeird Algae bait
PufferfluteCrystal CoveFlakes, Day, Clear, Autumn
Pyrite PufferfishVolcanic VentsShrimp, Night, Autumn
Carrot PufferfishCarrot GardenNo bait needed, Rain, Spring
MustardThe OceanSeaweed, Rain, Summer

Quest 2: Collect My Pufferfish. This is the big Perfect Catch mutation grind. Expect roughly 20 to 25 different Pufferfish mutations at ×10 Perfect Catch each. Lists of exact mutations do not always match, so treat example rods as help only.

For Rotting, try Splitbranch Twig. For Celestial, use Celestial Rod. For Mythical, equip Mythical Rod. Other useful pairings include The Lost Rod for Lost, Heaven's Rod for Heavenly, Sunken Rod for Sunken, Crystalized Rod for Crystalized, Trident Rod for Atlantean, and Lucid Rod for Lucid. Scurvy Rod or Rod of the Eternal King help for Greedy. Cycle the rod that matches the mutations still open on your tracker. A normal catch does not count when the objective says Perfect Catch.

Real-time wait. After you finish Quest 2 and talk to Monty, wait about five real-world hours before the next mission unlocks. Logging back early does nothing. Plan a break or grind other Deep goals in the meantime.

Quest 3: Collect My Pufferfish Electric Boogaloo. The next batch leans into rarer and event-style Pufferfish mutations, with mixed counts (many still ×10 Perfect, some ×2, ×5, or ×1). Exact names and amounts can look different for some players, so read every line on your tracker. Tryhard Pufferfish are a normal Catch objective after a live fix, not a Perfect Catch requirement.

Quest 4: 500 Pufferfish. Perfect Catch and return 500 Pufferfish while using the Restricted Halibut Harpoon. That restricted form shows up mid-line as you push the later missions. Finish the remaining objectives to fully unlock the hybrid. Players treat this stage as the end of Monty's chain. If a late objective looks different on your tracker, follow the tracker.

Once it is fully unlocked, equip the Halibut Harpoon like other hybrid gear: fishing rod duties and harpoon use in one item.

Optional comfort in The Deep: a Stabilizer Chip improves underwater up and down control when you are on harpoon duty. If you are still filling other trench rods after Monty, every The Deep rod in Fisch covers that wider map of Deep crafts.

FAQ

Q.

Where is Dr. Monty in Fisch?

Outer Deep near Beacon 1P-2 at GPS (461, -2002, -13150.2). Enter the first building through a glowing window. Monty stands next to the board inside Monty's Lab.

Q.

What are Dr. Monty's riddle answers?

Hubbermistchen (try Hubbermeisterchen if that rejects), 13,388.82 C$, and Orange. You only need the base-value number for the Aether riddle, not the fish itself.

Q.

Do I need Perfect Catches for every Monty quest?

Quest 1 is normal catch-and-return ×10 of each species. From Quest 2 onward most lines want Perfect Catch mutations. Quest 4 is 500 Perfect Pufferfish on the Restricted Halibut Harpoon. Tryhard in Quest 3 is a normal Catch after the live fix.

Q.

Is the Halibut Harpoon a rod or a harpoon gun?

Both. It is a fishing rod / Harpoon Gun hybrid from Version 1.97, unlocked through Dr. Monty's questline in The Deep.
