Mewgenics mixes tactical battles with a home base where your cats live and breed. Trinkets are the items a cat carries into those fights, and every cat has one trinket slot for them. Some add a steady bonus, like extra Luck or Shield, while others give you an effect to trigger during a battle. Knowing how they work, where they come from and how they break will help your cats last longer.

How Trinkets Work in Mewgenics
Trinkets sit in the last slot of a cat's equipment. Consumables use that same slot, so a cat holds just one item there at a time. Passive trinkets work all the time once equipped, giving a steady bonus to a stat or a battle effect, which makes them the easy kind to rely on.
Usable trinkets are different. You can activate them once a turn unless the item says otherwise, and some have a set number of uses. Holy Water, for example, can be used without limit. Consumables work a little differently too: when they run out, they disappear instead of breaking, so it helps to know which type you're holding before a fight.
Trinket Rarity: Common, Uncommon, Rare and Very Rare
Rarity mostly decides how often a trinket shows up, so Common and Uncommon ones turn up the most. Common trinkets are usually simple, like Lucky Penny, which adds +1 Luck. Rare and Very Rare trinkets tend to pack bigger bonuses, such as Mother's Love, which gives +6 Health Regen.
Very Rare trinkets have one extra rule: they can't drop from regular post-battle loot or regular treasure chests. You find them through specific events, bosses and abilities, since each of those sources has its own item pool. A lower tier can still be the right pick for a cat, though, so don't skip one just because it sounds weaker.
How to Get Trinkets in Mewgenics
Trinkets come from shops, treasure nodes, events and combat. Some items only come from one of these sources, because the game uses item pools to decide what each event, boss or ability can give you. That's why a trinket you're after may only show up in one particular place.
Quest trinkets, marked with a green square, come from House Bosses and story events. Side Quest trinkets, marked with a blue square, come from Dr. Beanies, who hands them out in return for cats with mutations, birth defects, disorders or parasites. The item you get is chosen at random. Both kinds must stay equipped whenever they go on an adventure, and both are stored apart from your regular gear.
Cursed Trinkets and Parasites
Cursed trinkets can't be taken off once equipped, so it pays to think before you put one on. The trade-off is power. Cursed Rock gives +6 Shield for 2 Strength, and once it's on, it stays on. Cursed items show a cursed mark instead of a rarity icon, and some have no rarity at all.
Parasite trinkets are one type of cursed item. The Black Candle, a Rare head item, lets its wearer take cursed items off, which is useful when a curse isn't worth keeping.
Why Trinkets Break and How to Protect Them
Gear you pull out of storage becomes Worn at the end of an adventure. Worn items have a 50% chance to break when your cat returns home, and that rises to 100% when you come back from Chapter 4 or a House Boss. Items you find during a run don't get the Worn status, so the risk falls mostly on what you brought from storage.
Quest items are exempt from Worn, but Side Quest items aren't. If one of those breaks, the only way to get it back is to roll the same Dr. Beanies quest again. Two other things can cost you a trinket. If a cat dies, everything it's holding is lost with it, and the Tool Box can help with breakage by removing the Brittle and Fragile properties from all your items, which otherwise make gear break sooner than expected.
Best Trinkets in Mewgenics and When to Use Them
No single trinket is best for every cat, so the smart move is to match it to the cat's job. Angel Wing suits a cat that takes a lot of hits, since an attack that would down it leaves it at 1 HP instead. Ankh gives a downed cat a 50% chance to get back up each round, with a third of its health.
For recovery, Fork restores 5 HP on each kill. Dream Catcher restores all mana, heals a random injury and gives a stat boost whenever your cat falls asleep, which makes it a strong pick for a cat that can cause sleep.
For damage, Natural 20 greatly raises critical hits on weapon attacks, and Multiplier lets a weapon be used one more time each turn. Bloody Razor is the riskier option: it deals 5 damage to your cat in exchange for +3 Damage and +1 Magic Damage, and its uses are unlimited. Jar of Nothing is the one to skip, since it's Common and does nothing at all.
Mewgenics Gear That Boosts Your Trinket
Cap and Bells, a Very Rare head item, triples the effects of your trinket. The Copycat Hat, Mask and Scarf take a different approach and copy your trinket's passive effects. These boosts don't create new effects, so pair them with a trinket that hits hard, heals well or applies status effects rather than a minor flat stat bonus.
FAQ
Can a trinket charm an enemy into your squad?
Yes, but not a boss. The Friendship Bracelet, a Rare trinket with 3 uses, permanently charms a non-boss enemy so it joins your party. The Persuasion Device does the same job from the weapon slot, once per battle.
Do any trinkets pay out coins?
Yes, a couple. Golden Egg, an Uncommon trinket, gives you 3 to 5 coins after each battle. Golden Tooth has no rarity tier and adds +4 Luck, and it turns into 125 coins when your cat returns home.
Can a weapon give you a trinket?
Yes. The Melon Baller, a weapon, gives your cat a random eye trinket if it doesn't already have one equipped.
