Mewgenics is a roguelike tactics game about breeding cats, and every cat you send into a fight has five equipment slots. Neck items are the armor pieces that go in the neck slot. They can add protection like Shield, change a stat such as Luck or Speed, or give a special effect like thorns or an auto-revive. Knowing how the tiers work and where each piece comes from makes it much easier to choose the right one for each cat.

How the Neck Slot Works in Mewgenics
Every cat has five equipment slots: head, neck, face, trinket and weapon. The head, neck and face slots all hold armor, so neck items belong to the same family as the pieces you put on a cat's head and face. A cat can wear only one neck item at a time, so equipping a new piece means taking off the old one.
Neck items cover a wide range of effects. Some add Shield or Brace for extra protection, while others change a stat like Luck, Speed or Charisma. A few add passives such as thorns, immunity to elemental damage or steady regeneration, and those can shape a whole fight.
Neck Item Rarity Tiers Explained
Neck items are sorted into tiers from Common up to Very Rare, and a higher tier usually means a rarer piece. Higher tiers also tend to bring stronger or more complex effects. Fit still matters more than rank, though, so a middle-tier neck item that suits your cat can beat a top-tier one that doesn't.
Quest and Side Quest pieces sit outside this ladder, since they come from story and side quests instead of regular drops. A few neck items have no tier at all.
Cursed is a separate label rather than a higher tier. Cursed pieces usually have strong effects but come with a drawback. Most of them can't be taken off once equipped, with a few exceptions.
Where to Find Neck Items
Common, Uncommon and Rare neck items come from the everyday flow of play. You can pick them up in shops, treasure nodes, events and combat, and some bosses and abilities draw from their own item pools. That's why the same piece can show up in more than one place.
Very Rare neck items work differently. They never drop from regular battle loot or ordinary treasure chests, so clearing fights alone won't turn them up. They come from boss fights, special events and other specific sources.
Quest and Side Quest Neck Items
Quest and Side Quest neck items come from story and side quest chains, not from shops or chests. Side Quest pieces are handed out by Dr. Beanies, and Bubble Boy is one of them. Quest pieces come from House Bosses or story events. Both kinds must be equipped on every adventure, and they're stored apart from your regular gear.
Nuke is the clearest example of a Quest neck piece. It adds 10 Shield and 2 Brace but costs 2 Speed. Its ability hits every combatant on the field for 50 damage, allies included, and it also goes off on its own if the cat wearing it dies.
Neck Item Set Bonuses Explained
Many neck items belong to a set, and a set bonus only kicks in once you collect enough of its pieces. Wear three pieces from the same set on one cat, and that cat gets the bonus. Some sets have four or five pieces, so you pick the three that suit the cat best.
The bonus applies only to the cat wearing the pieces, so sets are planned cat by cat. Some sets also link pieces across different slots. The Soul is part of a trilogy with The Mind and The Body, which sit in the head and face slots.
Best Neck Items to Look For
No single neck item is best for every cat, so the right pick depends on how the cat fights. The Soul is the top choice for luck-focused cats. Its +7 Luck is one of the largest single-stat boosts in the game, and Luck can help with critical hits and the quality of what you find.
Pyrophina's Toenail suits cats that need to survive. It adds 8 Shield and makes the wearer immune to fire, so it fits a cat facing fire-heavy enemies.
Dirty Bionic Armor is the pick for speed. Its +4 Speed comes with mana and health regeneration, and Speed helps the cat act earlier in a fight. It's a strong fit for a cat that wants the first hit.
One of the Steven neck pieces is the one for Holy spellcasters. It lowers the mana cost of Holy spells, so a cat that uses several of them can cast more often in long fights.
Neck Wrap is a solid option for frontline fighters. It's an Uncommon piece with +1 Health Regen and an auto-revive that brings the cat back at 15% HP when the round ends. Each piece in the Mummy set has its own revive, so wearing several doesn't guarantee several revives in one fight.
Keeping Neck Items Safe on Adventures
Neck items follow the same storage rules as other gear. Items you bring home from a successful adventure go into storage, so you can use them again later. Once you've used a piece on an adventure, it's marked Worn, and worn gear can break. A broken item can't be used again, and breaking is much more likely if you cut a run short or come back from a house boss or Chapter 4.
There's one more thing to watch. If a cat's body is destroyed, everything it's wearing is lost. A valuable neck item is only as safe as the cat wearing it.
FAQ
Which neck items boost Luck the most?
The Soul gives the biggest jump at +7 Luck. Lucky Twine is a smaller option, adding +1 Luck and 2 Shield, and it's a Very Rare piece too. Human Hide adds +2 Luck but costs 1 point of Charisma, so it suits cats that don't rely on Charisma.
Does a cursed neck item keep its normal rarity?
Yes. The cursed mark takes the place of the tier icon, but the item keeps its real tier. So a cursed Very Rare piece is still Very Rare, with its drawback attached.
