How to Fix the Roblox Infinite Install Loop

Updated on July 22, 2026 (about 3 hours ago)

You press Play, Roblox runs "Getting Latest Roblox", and the next launch installs it all over again. That loop usually means the previous install did not finish correctly, so Roblox keeps retrying it.

A clean reinstall removes the broken local files before the installer writes them again. It does not delete your account, Robux, avatar, or experience progress.

#StageWhat it does
1Close and uninstall RobloxStops the broken copy from running
2Remove leftover filesClears the local files a normal uninstall can leave behind
3Restart WindowsReleases files that were still locked
4Check security softwareFinds a block without leaving protection disabled

How to Fix the Roblox Infinite Install Loop

Why Roblox keeps saying "Getting Latest Roblox"

Roblox installs under your Windows user profile in %localappdata%\Roblox. If an install is interrupted or files in that folder become corrupted, the next launch can detect an incomplete copy and run the installer again.

Security software can also block the installer from downloading or writing a required file. A plain reinstall may then repeat the same failure, which is why this loop has its own entry among the common Roblox errors and fixes.

How to break the install loop on Windows

Follow these stages in order. The leftover-folder cleanup and restart are easy to miss.

1. Close and uninstall Roblox

  1. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
  2. End every running process with Roblox in its name.
  3. Open Settings > Apps and open the installed-app list.
  4. Select Roblox and uninstall it.

2. Remove the leftover Roblox files

  1. Press Win + R.
  2. Enter %localappdata% and press Enter.
  3. Delete the Roblox folder.
  4. Press Win + R again.
  5. Enter %temp% and press Enter.
  6. Delete the temporary files Windows permits, and skip anything reported as in use.

The %localappdata%\Roblox folder only holds local app files. Removing it does not affect your Roblox account.

3. Restart Windows

Restart the PC before reinstalling Roblox. This releases any installer files that Windows was still holding.

4. Check security software

Update your antivirus or security app, then check its blocked-app or quarantine history for the Roblox installer. If it recorded a block, restore or allow Roblox by following that security vendor's official instructions.

If the loop continues and no block is shown, you can temporarily pause a third-party antivirus for one install attempt. Turn it back on as soon as the installer finishes. Do not leave protection disabled or create a broad permanent exclusion.

5. Download and install Roblox again

  1. Download the installer from roblox.com/download.
  2. Right-click the downloaded installer.
  3. Choose Run as administrator.
  4. Let the installer finish without opening other Roblox programs.
  5. Re-enable any protection you temporarily paused.
  6. Open an experience from roblox.com to test the installation.

The website downloads or launches the installed Roblox Player. Roblox does not run inside the browser. Close Player after the test, then launch it again to confirm the install loop is gone.

How to reinstall Roblox on Mac

1. Remove Roblox and its leftover files

  1. Quit Roblox fully from the Dock.
  2. Open Applications in Finder.
  3. Drag Roblox to the Trash.
  4. Press Shift + Cmd + G in Finder.
  5. Open ~/Library/Caches and remove items named Roblox.
  6. Repeat for ~/Library/Application Support.
  7. Empty the Trash.

2. Start the installer from roblox.com

Open an experience on roblox.com and press Play. The website should download or launch the installer for the separate Roblox Player app. It does not play the experience in the browser.

If the installer does not start, open the downloaded Roblox.dmg in Finder and run it manually.

If Roblox still installs every time

Try the Microsoft Store version of Roblox on Windows. It uses a separate installation route and can work when the desktop installer continues to fail.

Corrupted local files can cause other startup problems too. The related steps for when Roblox keeps closing on PC, Roblox cannot continue, or Roblox needs to quit unexpectedly help narrow down those symptoms. If a second clean install still loops, contact Roblox Support and include your device details.

FAQ

Q.

Will deleting the local Roblox folder delete my account or Robux?

No. That folder holds local app files. Your account, Robux, avatar, and experience progress remain tied to your Roblox account.

Q.

Why does the install loop come back after I reinstall?

The old local folder may still be present, or security software may be blocking an installer file. Remove the leftover folder, restart, and check the security app's block history before trying again.

Q.

Can the same cleanup help Roblox Studio when it is stuck installing?

It can help when damaged local Roblox files are causing the Studio installer loop. Close both Player and Studio before the cleanup, then contact Roblox Support if Studio still cannot install.
