A silent close, a named anti-cheat message, and a graphics error need different fixes. Match what you see first, then work through the relevant steps below.
| Symptom | Start here |
|---|---|
| Roblox suddenly fails for many players | Check Roblox Status |
| The window closes without a message | Restart, repair, then reinstall the official app |
| A message names third-party or incompatible software | Close that program or test a clean boot |
| A message mentions OBS Game Capture | Change the OBS capture source |
| Graphics fail, textures break, or the screen distorts | Check DirectX, compatibility mode, and the display driver |
If Roblox shows the exact needs-to-quit popup, use the Unexpected Error fixes. If it stops before an experience opens, the Roblox cannot continue fixes match that message more closely. A numbered code or another warning may already be listed in the Roblox errors catalog.

Try the safe fixes in this order
1. Restart Windows and close Roblox
A restart clears stuck processes and gives an interrupted install another chance.
- Close Roblox and any installer window.
- Restart the PC.
- Open one experience from roblox.com, which launches the installed Roblox app.
If Roblox is being installed or repaired, close other programs before running the installer.
2. Confirm that you have an official Roblox app
Use an unmodified Roblox installation from roblox.com or the Microsoft Store. Modified clients can trigger anti-cheat warnings that cache cleaners and driver changes will not solve.
For a Store installation, the supported listing is named Roblox - Windows and uses a blue icon. The older Roblox listing has a light gray icon. Install and test Roblox - Windows before removing the older app.
3. Repair the Microsoft Store app
Windows may offer Repair and Reset for the Store version. These controls do not appear for every app.
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Open Roblox's Advanced options, if shown.
- Select Repair and test Roblox.
- Use Reset only if Repair does not help.
4. Install Windows updates
Install pending Windows updates, restart, and test Roblox again. Windows Update is also Microsoft's preferred first path for hardware drivers.
Roblox lists 64-bit Windows 10 and Windows 11 in its PC requirements. Microsoft has ended standard Windows 10 support, which is a separate lifecycle issue. Move to Windows 11 when the PC qualifies, or use Microsoft's Extended Security Updates option where applicable.
5. Reinstall official Roblox
A reinstall replaces missing or damaged app files. It will not fix account moderation, a service incident, or a problem limited to one experience.
- Uninstall Roblox.
- Restart Windows.
- Clear browser temporary Internet files if the reinstall still fails. Keep this separate from Storage Sense or Disk Cleanup, which only handle general drive cleanup.
- Download Roblox from roblox.com or install Roblox - Windows from the Microsoft Store.
- Close other programs while Roblox installs.
Use the fix that matches the message
6. Close the program named by Roblox
If an anti-cheat warning names incompatible or third-party software, close that program and try Roblox again. Do not turn off antivirus protection permanently.
When the warning mentions a suspended process, blocked image, or an unnamed background conflict, use a reversible Windows clean boot to isolate it.
- Record every service and startup app you disable.
- Follow Microsoft's clean-boot steps and restart.
- Test Roblox once.
- Restore normal startup and re-enable the disabled items after the test.
If Roblox works during the clean boot, re-enable items in small groups until the conflicting program is found.
7. Change OBS Game Capture
If Roblox specifically names OBS Game Capture, keep OBS but change the source. Use Window Capture or Display Capture instead of Game Capture, then launch Roblox again.
8. Check the graphics path
Use this branch for Graphics failed to initialize, distorted textures, a reported graphics error, or an old-graphics-card warning.
- Press Windows + R, enter
dxdiag, and open the Display tab. - Confirm the listed feature levels include DirectX 10 or higher.
- Open the Roblox app's file properties and turn off Windows compatibility mode if it is enabled.
- Check Windows Update for a display driver.
- If needed, get the exact driver from the PC maker or the official NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel page.
If Roblox began closing immediately after a driver change, Device Manager may offer Roll Back Driver. A clean driver installation is a later vendor-specific recovery step, not the first fix for every crash.
If Roblox still closes
9. Narrow down the scope
Try a different experience once. A problem in one experience narrows the report, but it does not prove why the close happened. If every experience closes, collect the exact symptoms before changing more settings.
10. Send Roblox Support useful details
Contact Roblox Support with the exact message, device model, Windows version, steps that trigger the close, and any recent device or network changes. Mention whether the issue affects one experience or all of them.
Avoid random DLL downloads, registry cleaners, third-party driver updaters, executors, and permanent security exclusions. They add risk without identifying the failing part.
