Maps decide how a Murder Mystery 2 round feels before anyone draws a role. A tight office with dead-end corridors plays nothing like a mansion with three staircases, and knowing where the vents, elevators, and long sightlines are is half of surviving. The pool players see in matchmaking is the standard rotation, seasonal maps join during events, and a long line of older maps has been retired or rebuilt into the versions running today.

Reading a map before it reads you
Every MM2 map is a closed arena with one job: create ambush spots for the Murderer and escape lines for everyone else. The quickest way to level up is to spend your first round on a new map walking it, not looting it. Find the second exit in every room, note which doors loop back around, and remember where the open sightlines are, because those are where the Sheriff earns their gun.
The rotation pool
Rotation maps are the ones normal matchmaking serves year round. Most are interiors built on the same logic: a central hub, a loop of rooms, and a couple of vertical shortcuts like vents or elevators. Numbered names such as Hospital 3 or Office 3 mark rebuilt versions of older maps, so if a layout feels familiar from years ago, it probably is the modern remake of it.
Seasonal maps
Seasonal maps ride in with the Halloween, Christmas, and Summer events and head back out when the event ends. They return in later years more often than not, which is why a Halloween barn or a ski village keeps showing up. Treat them as recurring guests rather than one-time visitors, and expect bigger, more decorated layouts than the rotation maps, with more props to hide behind on both sides of the knife.
Removed maps
Retired maps mostly fall into two groups: maps that were replaced by a numbered successor (Bank into Bank 2, Hospital through Hospital 3) and maps whose game mode left with them, like the Bonus Round maps. They are worth knowing as history, and because their successors reuse bones from the originals: a player who knew the old Mansion will feel at home in Mansion 2 fast.
Quick habits that travel across maps
- Learn vents and elevators first; they are the escape routes the Murderer has to guess.
- Avoid rooms with one door once bodies start dropping.
- As Murderer, patrol the coin-dense rooms; as Innocent, loot them early and leave.
FAQ
How many maps does a normal Murder Mystery 2 round pick from?
Normal matchmaking pulls from the standard rotation pool, the maps listed as in rotation here. Seasonal maps join that pool only while their event is running.
Do seasonal maps come back every year?
Usually. Halloween, Christmas, and Summer events have rerun most of their maps across multiple years, so a seasonal map you missed has a good chance of returning with its event. There is no guarantee for any specific map, though.
Why do some maps have numbers like Hospital 3 or Bank 2?
The number marks a rebuilt version. When a map is remade, the old one is retired and the new one takes its place in rotation, which is why the removed list is full of the originals behind today's numbered maps.
Can you vote for or choose a map in MM2?
No. The game picks the map for each round automatically from the active pool, so the only choice you control is learning the layouts well enough that any pick suits you.
What happened to the Bonus Round maps?
Maps like the original Barn and Pond existed for the old Bonus Rounds. When that feature was removed, its maps left with it, and they have not returned in any later version of the game.
