Ranged and special weapons are the gear you use to hit enemies from a distance or with an unusual effect in Crimson Desert. Ranged weapons include bows, crossbows, muskets, shotguns, pistols, blasters and two-handed cannons. Special weapons cover elemental spitters, a sleep-dart blowpipe, fans, drills, chainsaws and A.T.A.G. weapons. The game has no classes, so you can swing a heavy two-handed weapon one moment and draw a bow the next.

How Ranged and Special Weapons Work in Crimson Desert
Ranged weapons are handled through the Aim function. By default your bow is set there, but you can also set a firearm or a fishing rod. To swap between them, open the Quick Equipment Slots radial menu. All your ranged gear sits in the bottom-right slot, and your ammo type sits just to the left of it.
Quick Swap is the faster route. It switches back to whatever you had drawn last, so you can move between ranged gear and melee weapons without opening menus.
Fans, drills and chainsaws go in a separate tool slot, found in the quickslot menu just below the secondary weapon slot. That slot also holds everyday tools like the logging axe and pickaxe.
Who Can Use Ranged and Special Weapons
Most of this group works for every character. Muskets, shotguns, pistols, crossbows, two-handed cannons, elemental spitters, the Soporific Blowpipe, A.T.A.G. weapons, drills and chainsaws are all open to everyone.
The exceptions are blasters and bows. Blasters are shared by Kliff and Oongka, and the Orc Blaster is locked to Oongka alone. Most bows belong to Kliff, with the Noble Man's Bow as the one every character can equip.
Bows, Crossbows and Arrows in Crimson Desert
Bows are the classic ranged weapon in this group and Kliff's main way of fighting from a distance. Some carry an extra Critical Rate or Attack Speed bonus, which means more chances at a critical hit or quicker shots.
Crossbows are a smaller corner of this group, and every character can use them. The Hyde Crossbow is the one built for steady use in harsh conditions.
Arrows are the ammo for bows, and there are a few ways to get them. You can find them out in the open world, loot them from fallen enemies, have a blacksmith make them, or craft them yourself. Crafting is usually the best option, since it only takes some wood and iron ore. Chop trees with a lumberjack's axe for the wood and mine the ore with a pickaxe. You can find both tools in town, or buy them for a few coins from the merchant across from the blacksmith district.
Flaming arrows are worth knowing too. Switch to Aim mode, walk up to a fire source, and point the arrowhead at the flame. Wait for the arrow to catch fire, then shoot. Flaming arrows deal a lot of damage, and they can clear the weeds that block some areas.
Muskets, Shotguns and Pistols in Crimson Desert
Firearms are the guns in this group: muskets, shotguns and pistols. Each type feels a little different, so the choice comes down to how you like to fight.
Muskets come from many makers, and their builds differ. Some are machine-made for consistent results, while others use automatic loading. The Infinite Arrows Abyss gear works for bullets and cannonballs as well as arrows, which makes it useful if you lean on firearms or cannons.
Shotguns are the heavy end of the firearms. The Metilbahm Shotgun is a clear example, with a rough axe attached for charging at warriors.
Pistols suit players who want something simple to handle. The Jemel Pistol is built for straightforward handling, which makes it an easy place to start with firearms.
Blasters and Two-Handed Cannons in Crimson Desert
Blasters are hand cannons that come in a wide range of styles, from ornate builds to rough-forged ones. You can pick based on how you want your character to look.
The Air Blaster stands apart. It compresses air and fires it as a forceful blast that knocks enemies back, so it's better at pushing foes away from you than at dealing straight damage.
Two-handed cannons are a separate group, built for heavy firepower and handled with both hands. The Gamma Barrel Cannon is a plainly finished example of that heavy style.
Elemental Spitters and the Soporific Blowpipe
Elemental spitters are built around one element each. The Flamespitter projects fire, the Frostspitter projects frost and the Boltspitter projects lightning. Each element comes in a Kuku pack version and an electromagnetic version, and they hit at the same strength, so the element is what sets them apart.
The Soporific Blowpipe takes a different route. It's a forest-made blowpipe that fires herbal sleeping darts strong enough to put a troll to sleep, which makes it the group's sleep option.
A.T.A.G. Weapons in Crimson Desert
A.T.A.G. weapons come as pieces for each hand, plus a two-handed fist. Some pieces are built for fighting, like the Machine Gun, which hits several foes with rapid fire. Others are built to handle objects instead of enemies.
The two-handed Fist is built to knock foes down. What each piece does matters more than its raw damage, so choose based on the job you need done.
Fans, Drills, Chainsaws and Gloves in Crimson Desert
Most of the fans are painted Demeniss-style pieces, each showing a different scene from everyday life. The Eastern Witch's Fan is the exception. It channels wind and lightning, and heavy or charged attacks can summon small tornadoes that scatter groups of foes.
Its light and heavy combo blows down trees in front of you, which makes it handy for logging. Charged attacks can also push rain clouds away from the area around you.
The Mining Knuckledrill and the Demenissian Chainsaw are work tools more than fighters. The drill breaks through rock and collects ore as it goes, while the chainsaw cuts timber quickly and gathers it as it works.
Ordinary Gloves are the one option in the fists group, a pair of Greymane leather gloves with reinforced backs and textured palms for a secure grip. Their thick padding also supports unarmed fighting.
How to Get Ranged and Special Weapons in Crimson Desert
Many of these weapons are crafted at a smith. Bows, guns and blasters need the matching volume of Ranged Weapons of the World, and cannons need Two-Handed Weapons of the World. Some need a specific blueprint instead, like the Aeserion Gear Blueprint for the Aeserion Bow, and the Kuku spitters are made at the Kuku Pot cooking station once you learn the Kuku Pack Special Blueprint.
Shops are a direct route for many. Blasters are sold at hand cannon shops, such as Forrex's Neutral Hand Cannon shop in Delesyia. Bows and other gear turn up at equipment shops in towns such as Odeck, Hernand and Pailune.
Enemies are another source. Bandits, pirates and Wyvernflames drop several of these weapons, and the painted fans come from nobles and wildlife park visitors in Demeniss and nearby regions. Quest rewards are a third route. For example, the Dane Shotgun comes from the Name Written in Blood mission.
How to Choose Ranged and Special Weapons in Crimson Desert
The right pick depends on what you need in a fight, so think about the job before you craft or buy anything.
If you want to keep your distance, bows and crossbows are the core picks, and firearms and blasters can cover that role too. For burst, which means heavy hits in a short time, look at the shotguns and muskets, since they sit at the top for raw attack in this group. Refining at a smith raises attack, so a weapon you plan to keep is worth upgrading.
For crowd control, the Eastern Witch's Fan and the Air Blaster are built to push enemies away, which helps when a group is closing in. Your character matters too. Kliff gets the widest bow selection, so he's the natural archer, while firearms, crossbows and cannons are open to every character.
FAQ
Where do I find the Eastern Witch's Fan?
You can craft it at a smith, or buy it from Lyselia at the Demeniss Witch shop. There's also a hidden route, which starts by learning Focused Force Palm in Chapter 4 at the Scholar Stone Institute, southwest of Hernand.
Ring the Bell Tower for Demeniss to reveal the area, then head to Serpent Marsh, just south of Demeniss. Find the cliff edge marked by a multi-colored flag and glide down to the small platform below. Enter focused stance and hit the large rock wall with Focused Force Palm, since a regular attack won't break it, then open the treasure chest in the cave behind it.
Is the Eastern Witch's Fan good for damage?
It's built more for control than damage. Its tornado deals little direct damage, and strong attacks tend to push enemies away rather than finish them. The lightning attack is its most reliable offense, dealing reasonable damage and stunning well against tough groups.
Because it has no Abyss Gear slots and its moves don't combine well with many combat skills, some players use it as a support weapon. They switch to it for crowd control, then swap back to a stronger weapon for the finishing blows.
Where can I get the A.T.A.G. Laser?
The A.T.A.G. Laser drops from Twilight Messengers and the Twilight Messenger Vice Captain in Crimson Desert, so those are the enemies to target.
