All 162 Headgear Pieces and How to Get Them in Crimson Desert

Updated on November 8, 2026 (about 4 hours ago)

Headgear in Crimson Desert is the gear you wear on your head, and it covers helmets, hats, masks, glasses and a few special devices. Most pieces add defense, which softens the damage your character takes in a fight, and many also bring a bonus effect such as extra resistance or a little extra speed when you move. Some pieces only fit certain characters, and every piece can be refined at a blacksmith to make it stronger.

How Headgear Defense Works

Defense is the main number on most headgear, and it tells you how much protection a piece gives your character in a fight. The figure grows as you refine the piece, so a helm's full strength only shows once it has been upgraded all the way. Plate helms sit near the top of the range, while other pieces give less, and a few, such as the circlets, don't offer defense at all.

When you choose a piece, don't look at defense alone. Weigh it against the bonus effects and who can wear the piece, because a slightly lower defense can still be the better match for your characters.

Refining Headgear at the Blacksmith

Refinement is how you make headgear stronger. Each piece moves through a series of levels, and each one raises its defense, with some levels adding effects of their own. You do it at a blacksmith, and the first one you'll find is in the middle of Hernand, the starting town. Refining costs no money, only the materials each piece needs.

Before you spend anything, open your inventory, choose Inspect and then Refinement Information to see what a piece needs. The materials depend on what the headgear is made of. Plate pieces need ore and gems, and you mine ore from mountain walls with a pickaxe, which you can buy from the Provisioner's Shop in Hernand. Leather pieces need hides and bones from animals you hunt and skin, while cloth pieces use cloth, fleece and similar materials that also drop as loot from bandits and other enemies.

The final level needs Aeserion's Scale, a rare material, so save it for a piece you plan to keep. Put your early materials into the gear you wear in every fight first, and hold off on rare materials for anything you expect to replace soon.

If you change your mind, Extraction at the blacksmith lowers a piece's refinement level and gives back part of the materials you put in, without destroying the item. Rare materials come back in full, while common ones return at a smaller share, so use Extraction once you've found a clearly better replacement rather than to shuffle a few common materials around.

Bonus Effects and Who Can Wear Headgear

Many pieces come with bonus effects on top of defense. Daze Immunity keeps you from being dazed, Movement Speed helps you move a little faster, and Lightning Resistance softens damage from lightning. Check the effect list before you choose, since the right bonus can matter more than a small gap in defense.

Each piece also lists who can equip it. Some fit only Kliff, others fit Kliff and Oongka, and some suit everyone, while a few are made for other characters alone. Check who can wear a piece before you put materials into it, because a helm your character can't equip won't help you no matter how good its stats look.

Headgear Sets and Disguise Effects

Some headgear belongs to a named set, such as Blue Scout, Flame Knights, Jester, Rabbit or Wolf Tracker. A set name is shared by pieces that show up across several equipment slots, so it marks a themed family of gear rather than a single item. Looks alone don't put a piece in a set, so helms that seem alike may have nothing to do with each other.

Disguise effects are a separate thing. Several helms carry a bonus named after a group, like Black Bear Disguise, Wolf Disguise or Deer Disguise, and having one doesn't decide whether the piece belongs to a set. A helm can have a disguise without belonging to any set, and a set piece can have no disguise at all.

Where to Get Headgear

Headgear comes from enemies, quest rewards, shops and crafting. Enemies drop plenty of pieces, and some foes leave several at once. Quests reward others, too.

Shops are another good place to look, and Tina in Hernand sells several cloth caps while Cartaine in Samora sells the hats added with Charting the Unknown.

Crafting is the other main route. Many cloth, leather and plate pieces are made from blueprints, such as the Plate Armors of the World blueprint, and many named helms have their own blueprint that unlocks crafting. Plenty of pieces have more than one route, such as a drop and a recipe, so you may find more than one way to get the same piece.

Visione Headgear and Headgear Tiers

Visione is a memory-reading device that you wear on your head, and wearers use it to read memory fragments and detect nearby ones. The Guard, Military, Prototype and Bespoke models carry the same memory functions along with high defense, and most Visione pieces fit every character.

Prototype Visione is the earliest version of the design, and Bespoke Visione has a distinctive finish while keeping its memory functions. Tempered Visione is a reinforced model that Garkhan of the Ironflame Orcs gave Kliff, and it comes from the Brave New World quest. It has far less defense than the others, so it's more of a story piece than a combat pick.

A piece's tier doesn't track its defense closely. Pieces in the same tier can differ a lot, and pieces from different tiers can share the same defense, so judge each piece by its defense, bonus effects and who can wear it rather than relying on tier alone.

Best Headgear to Pick First

If you want a simple pick, look for a plate helm with top defense and Daze Immunity that fits the characters you play. The Ashad Plate Helm checks both boxes and fits Kliff and Oongka, and you earn it from a quest. The Valortread Plate Helm is another strong choice that Lederson in Hernand sells.

Your choice can also depend on which character wears it. For Kliff alone, the Flame Knights Plate Helm offers the same top defense and Daze Immunity, and Flame Knights in Demeniss drop it.

FAQ

Q.

Which headgear helps you stay underwater longer?

The diving pieces are the ones to look at, since they give a big boost to how long you can hold your breath underwater. Charter's Diving Helm and Marine Charter's Diving Helm fit Kliff and Oongka, while their light versions are made for Damiane alone. Deepwater Carapace Helm adds faster swimming on top of its breath boost, and Marine Charter's helms are sold by Sulivan in Demeniss.

Q.

Which headgear can Damiane wear?

Several helms are made for Damiane alone. The Goldlight Plate Helm, the Light of the Battlefield Plate Helm and the Autumn Banquet Plate Helm all reach top defense, and the Goldlight also adds Daze Immunity. The Mask of Liberation and the Stormlord Hat, an elegant tricorne, are other options for Damiane.

Q.

Which headgear helps you earn more silver or gather extra items?

The Circus Jester Hat raises the silver you acquire and fits Kliff and Oongka. The Pororin Petal Hat gives you a chance to gather extra items and fits every character, and it comes from the Children of the Woods quest.

Q.

What headgear can you get from Mask Artisans?

Mask Artisans in the Republic of Delesyia drop several pieces, including the Black Bears' Leather Helm, the Blinding Arrow's Mask, the Deer Hat, the Alpha Wolf Helm, the Boss Bear Hat and the Shadowleaf Helm. The Shadowleaf Helm also comes from the Legendary Wolf quest, so you have two ways to get it.
