What Crimson Desert Cloak Stats Mean

Defense is the protection a cloak adds to your total protection, so a sturdier cloak takes less damage in a fight. Resistance is the main reason to wear one. Each resistance cuts the harm from a single element, whether that's ice, fire or lightning, and some cloaks offer a stronger version of a resistance than others.

Other effects sit on top of that. Movement speed helps you cover ground faster, and a stamina cost reduction means your actions use up less stamina, so you can keep going for longer. Disguise effects make you look like a certain group, person or animal, and some cloaks carry niche bonuses that only matter in certain situations.

How to Get Cloaks in Crimson Desert

Cloaks come from shops, treasure chests, enemies and bosses, the blacksmith and the open world. Plenty of them are for sale in towns and camps. Lola in Pailune, Elise in Tariv, Gurbit at Crimson Mountains Fortress and Carl at Greymane Camp all sell cloaks, and some sales depend on your relationship with the seller. The Tariv Cloth Cloak, for example, becomes available from Elise once you reach max Trust with her.

Treasure chests are another common source, and many sit in out-of-the-way spots. Some are behind waterfalls, where you need the Stab skill to get through, and others are in hidden rooms, like the one in the Icemoor Castle Ruins.

Enemies and bosses can drop cloaks too. The Frozen Heart Plate Cloak comes from the Dreadnought during the Forbidden Gatekeeper, and the Hungering Fang Leather Cloak is a reward for defeating Ludvig in the middle of Chapter 7. Some cloaks can be crafted at a smith, such as the Valortread Plate Cloak, while others are simply found in the open world as you explore.

How to Upgrade Cloaks with Refinement

Cloaks can be refined at the blacksmith in the middle of Hernand, the starting town. The game calls upgrading "Refinement," and it doesn't cost any money. You only pay with the materials each step asks for.

To see what a step needs, open your inventory, choose Inspect, then pick Refinement Information. The materials depend on what the cloak is made of. Plate cloaks need ore, leather cloaks need hides and bones, and cloth cloaks need cloth pieces and fleece.

Ore comes from mining deposits on mountain walls with a pickaxe, which you can buy at the Provisioner's Shop across from the blacksmith. Hides and bones come from hunting and skinning animals, while cloth pieces and fleece come from the same shop or from bandits and other enemies. Putting in time early is worth it, since gear matters a lot when you face bosses.

Which Cloaks Are Best and How to Choose

There isn't one best cloak for everyone. A cloak is most useful when its resistance matches the region or the fight you're in, so an ice cloak suits the colder parts of Pywel, while a fire cloak helps against heat. If one element is clearly the threat, start with the cloaks that offer the strongest version of that resistance.

Next, weigh Defense against the extra effects. A sturdier cloak gives you more protection overall, but one with less Defense can still be the better fit if its resistance or bonus is exactly what you need. Tier doesn't track a cloak's strength closely, so judge each one by what it offers.

Disguise Cloaks and Work Cloaks

Disguise cloaks help you blend in. The Disguise Cloak gives a civilian look for moving through city streets. Animal cloaks such as the Bear Hide, Wolf and Reindeer cloaks pass you off as the animal they come from, and the Boar Cloak helps you move past boars unnoticed. Faction pieces like the Condemner's Plate Cloak copy the uniform of the Righteous Inquisitors.

Work cloaks are built for one job. The Beekeeping Cloak protects its wearer from bee attacks, and the Riding Cloak is worn for horse events, where matching gear helps horses grow faster.

These pieces suit specific situations more than everyday fighting. Some offer very little protection in exchange for a bigger stamina saving, so save them for the job they were made for.

Who Can Wear Cloaks in Crimson Desert

Most cloaks can be worn by Kliff and Oongka. Some are only for Damiane, such as the Goldlight Plate Cloak and the Wanderer of Faith Leather Cloak, while others fit every character, including the Greymane Cloth Cloak and the Odeck's Protector Plate Cloak.

Check who can wear a cloak before you spend time refining or buying it. A cloak your character can't equip won't help that character at all.
