You tried to play Roblox and got "Access to www.roblox.com has been denied. (Error Code: 403)", with a line claiming you are not authorized. Or you got the other version: "Authentication Failed. An error was encountered during authentication. Please try again. (Error Code: 403)".
A 403 alone does not prove that your account is banned. Roblox says the website-launch version can appear when the PC app fails to start correctly. A Roblox service problem, browser state, security software, or your network can also stop the request.
Here is the fast map. The full steps are below.
| Your situation | Do this |
|---|---|
| Roblox reports a service problem | Wait and try again later (Fix 1) |
| A VPN or proxy is on | Turn it off and retry (Fix 1) |
| 403 when launching the app or a game | Clear local files, then reinstall (Fixes 2 and 3) |
| 403 only on roblox.com | Clear site data and test extensions (Fix 4) |
| 403 continues after a reinstall | Check security software and test another network (Fix 5) |

How to fix Roblox error 403
Work through these in order and stop as soon as Roblox opens. Roblox's official steps include reinstalling the app and removing its leftover local data.
1. Check Roblox status and disable a VPN or proxy
These checks separate a service problem from something on your device or connection.
- Open status.roblox.com. If Roblox reports a problem, wait until the affected service recovers.
- Turn off any VPN or proxy, then launch Roblox again.
Roblox includes disabling a VPN in its browser troubleshooting. Community reports also identify VPN connections as one possible cause of the authentication version, but the same message can have other causes.
2. Clear the Roblox temporary folder
Damaged temporary files can interfere with launch. This lighter cleanup is worth trying before a full reinstall.
- Press Win + R.
- Type
%temp%\Robloxand press Enter. - Select the files in that folder and delete them.
- Launch Roblox again.
If Windows says a file is in use, close Roblox and skip any file that still cannot be removed.
3. Reinstall Roblox and remove its leftover app data
Roblox recommends a reinstall followed by local app-data cleanup when the client does not initialize correctly.
- Uninstall Roblox. On Windows 10: Settings > Apps & features. On Windows 11: Control Panel > Programs and Features.
- Press Win + R, type
cmd, and press Enter. - In Command Prompt, type
cd AppData\Localand press Enter. - Type
rmdir /s Robloxand press Enter, then typeyto confirm. - Restart your PC.
- Reinstall from roblox.com/download.
Removing the local Roblox folder does not delete your account, Robux, or items. The installer creates the app files again.
If Roblox keeps failing at launch with different wording, the steps for "An error occurred and Roblox cannot continue" cover other launch failures.
4. Fix a 403 that appears only on roblox.com
If the error appears on the website instead of inside the Roblox app, test the browser separately.
- Clear cookies and temporary site data for roblox.com.
- Disable browser extensions and plugins, then reload the site.
- Update the browser if an update is available.
- Keep the VPN or proxy off during the test.
If the site works with extensions disabled, enable them one at a time to identify the conflict. Remember that roblox.com launches the installed app. It does not run the Roblox player inside the browser.
5. Check antivirus and firewall blocks
Security software can stop the Roblox client from connecting, but you should not leave your protection disabled.
- Open your antivirus protection history or recent alerts.
- If it blocked a Roblox file, restore or allow it only after confirming the file came from the official Roblox installer.
- Open Windows Security > Firewall & network protection > Allow an app through firewall.
- Allow Roblox on the network type you use, then retry.
Do not add broad folder exclusions or turn off real-time protection permanently. If security software is also closing the app, the fixes for when Roblox keeps closing on PC cover that symptom.
Test whether the connection is involved
If 403 continues after the app cleanup, use a second connection to narrow the cause. This test does not prove that an IP address was blocked. It only tells you whether the problem follows your usual network.
- Keep the VPN or proxy off.
- Restart your router.
- Try Roblox on a trusted mobile hotspot or another connection.
- If Roblox works there, contact your internet provider or Roblox Support for help with the original connection.
Community reports describe some 403 cases clearing after a wait, including temporary network-side failures. Roblox does not give a set wait time, so use Support if the problem continues across different networks and accounts.
If a different code appears during testing, Roblox error codes and fixes explains what each one means.
