Undead Nightmare's challenges cover zombie hunts, treasure maps and horse-breaking, with Tomahawk and Explosive Rifle tasks for players who want weapon-specific goals.

Required for 100%: Undead Hunter
The Torch unlocks during the early Blackwater missions, so rank 4 doesn't have to wait for the late game.
Required for 100%: Undead Sharpshooter
Dead Eye is your main tool for ranks 1, 3 and 4. Ranks 3 and 4 both need their kills inside one meter, and rank 5 wants sniper kills made without it.
Required for 100%: Undead Treasure Hunter
Work through the maps in order. Each cache from Maps 1 through 4 hands you the next map, and Map 5 leads you to the cliff between Casa Madrugada and Sepulcro.
Required for 100%: Four Horses of the Apocalypse
Ranks 1 to 3 take Pestilence, War and Famine in any order, and Death is rank 4. Rank 5 is a ride on Death through the undead outside El Presidio, and each horse's Blood Pact comes with it. **Spoiler:** the story finale also gives you Death. The Unicorn isn't one of these ranks. Kill the Chupacabra first, then finish this challenge. Where each horse roams and what it can do, plus the Unicorn's spawn details, are on [Horses of the Apocalypse](/red-dead/wiki/undead-nightmare/horses-of-apocalypse).
Optional: Tomahawk Mastery
If the challenges are missing on the PS3 standalone disc while the main game's data is installed, remove that data, not your saves, and reload.
Optional: Explosive Rifle Mastery
Rank 5 ties back to the American Imperialism mission, which is where the US Army Uniform comes from. If this track never shows on the PS3 standalone disc, follow the fix in the Tomahawk Mastery note.
Which Challenges Count Toward 100%
The core tracks are Undead Hunter, Undead Sharpshooter, Undead Treasure Hunter and Four Horses of the Apocalypse. Together they add 16% to the 100% stat, and finishing them unlocks the Legend of the Apocalypse outfit.
Tomahawk Mastery and Explosive Rifle Mastery are optional. They don't add to 100%, but each one has its own achievement and ammo reward, so they're a good side trip once the core tracks are done.
What to Do First
The Chupacabra, the first three Apocalypse horses, and the first treasure map depend on random spawns. Work on other ranks while you look for them. The Chupacabra mostly shows up in southern Nuevo Paraíso, and the horses roam away from the roads.
Pick your mount for the job. Pestilence or another Apocalypse horse keeps the Torch animals from pulling you off in Undead Hunter rank 4. For the Chupacabra in rank 5, switch to an ordinary horse, because it may not appear while you're riding an Apocalypse horse.
Weapon Masteries Open With a Town
The Tomahawk track starts when you save Manzanita Post. The Explosive Rifle track starts when you save Rathskeller Fork. Neither one shows up before its town is saved. For the rest of the town saves, see Towns Saved.
Mistakes That Cost Time
- Hunting Death early. He's the one horse you can't rush. He only appears after you own Pestilence, War and Famine.
- Using Dead Eye for Sharpshooter rank 2. Those kills don't count there, so switch it off for that rank.
FAQ
Are these the same as the Red Dead Redemption challenges?
No. Undead Nightmare has its own ranks. The Tomahawk Mastery rank 3 here asks you to kill an undead bat, not the bird from the base game's Tomahawk challenge. For the base game's challenges, see Red Dead Redemption challenges.
