Clearing an Undead Nightmare cemetery means burning its marked coffins and beating what rises from them. Every coffin drops ammo, and each cemetery counts toward 100%, worth 2% each.

West Elizabeth
New Austin
The New Austin cemeteries share the Get Back in That Hole, Partner mission, so the Old Bacchus Place safehouse is a group reward. Clearing just one of them won't open it.
Nuevo Paraíso
Sepulcro stays quiet until Mother Superior asks you to clear it in Mother Superior Blues. Walk up earlier and there are no coffins to burn. Once she asks, you can clear it whenever you like.
How a cemetery clear works
The cemeteries all run the same way.
- Light each coffin marked on your radar.
- The dead rise as the coffins burn.
- The last marked coffin brings a final wave, and the cemetery's boss comes with it.
- Kill what's left. The cleared message shows up once the undead are down.
Burning every marked coffin matters as much as the fight itself. The boss only shows up with the final wave, and that wave only comes from the last marked coffin, so don't treat the boss as the finish line. You're not done until the last coffin is burned and the cleared message appears.
Where each cemetery falls in the story
The Blackwater cemetery comes first in story order, then the New Austin cemeteries, and Sepulcro comes last. For where each of these missions sits in the wider campaign, see the Undead Nightmare story missions.
Does a cleared cemetery stay cleared?
No. About one in-game day after you clear a cemetery, the undead return, and you can clear it again. Clearing it again is repeatable, but each cemetery counts once toward 100%, so a second clear adds nothing to your progress.
FAQ
Do I have to switch to the Torch to burn coffins?
No. The Torch shows up during the first Blackwater missions, and the coffin prompt equips it automatically when you walk up to a marked coffin.
Do I need the later Mother Superior requests to get Holy Water?
No. Holy Water comes from the handoff with a normal undead, before you clear Sepulcro. The later requests, Filth and Other Entertainment and Biographies and Lies, follow the clear and don't hold it back.
Do Undead Overrun or Red Dead Redemption cemetery visits count?
No. These clears only count in the Undead Nightmare campaign. Undead Overrun multiplayer doesn't add to them, and the graveyards in base Red Dead Redemption don't count.
Are the cemeteries different on other versions?
The campaign cemeteries are the same on the original Undead Nightmare download, the standalone disc and later releases that include the full single-player campaign.
