Roblox can show a game in search but block its Play button with “This experience is unavailable due to your account settings.” The message normally means the game’s content-maturity label or allowed status does not match the account’s controls.
The right fix depends on the game’s label and the player’s account type. A linked parent can adjust many non-Restricted games, but nobody can use a setting to bypass the age gate on Restricted content.

Check what is blocking the game
1. Check the game’s content-maturity label
Open the game’s details page and find its label. Roblox uses Minimal, Mild, Moderate, and Restricted labels.
A game can remain visible in search or an ad even when the account cannot join it. Roblox explains this behavior in its Content Maturity FAQ.
2. Check the account’s age group
Open Settings > Account Info and check that the birthday is correct. Roblox Kids applies to younger children, Roblox Select applies through age 15, and users aged 16 or 17 still cannot join Restricted games.
Restricted content requires an age-checked Roblox account aged 18 or older. A parent approval or a higher content-maturity setting cannot remove that limit, and availability may also depend on the region.
3. Check Allowed games and Blocked games
A game can be within the account’s maturity allowance and still be blocked individually. A linked parent should select the child in Settings > Parental Controls, then open Content restrictions and check both Allowed games and Blocked games.
Remove the game from Blocked games if it was placed there by mistake. Do not change a block unless the parent responsible for the account agrees.

4. Change the child’s Content maturity setting
The linked parent must make this change from their own Roblox account.
- Open Settings > Parental Controls.
- Select the child.
- Open Settings you manage > Content restrictions > Content maturity.
- Choose an appropriate non-Restricted maturity allowance.
- Return to the game and try the Play button again.
Raising this setting affects more than one game. A parent who only wants to approve one eligible game can use the next option instead.
5. Allow one game through Pending requests
Roblox Kids and Select accounts may let a parent approve a specific non-Restricted game without opening the same maturity level across the account.
- Have the child send a request from the blocked game.
- On the linked parent account, open Settings > Parental Controls.
- Select the child and review Pending requests.
- Approve the eligible game.
- Manage approved games later under Content restrictions > Allowed games.
A parent cannot approve a Restricted game for a child. If the label says Restricted, stop here rather than hunting for a hidden switch that does not exist.
6. Link a parent account if none is connected
The child cannot manage parent-only controls alone. Start the link from the child’s account:
- Open Settings > Parental Controls.
- Select Add parent.
- Have the parent sign in with their own Roblox account.
- Complete the adult verification and linking prompts.
- Use the parent account to manage Content maturity and game requests.

7. Correct a birthday only when it is genuinely wrong
Do not enter a false birthday or use another person’s identity. If the account information is wrong, open Settings > Account Info, select the pencil beside Birthday, and follow Roblox’s verification or parental-consent prompts.
A linked parent can change a child’s birthday only once, and cannot change it after the child has verified their identity. Roblox may ask for age verification before accepting the correction.
When the account settings are already correct
8. Refresh the Roblox session once
A changed permission may not appear in a session that was already open. Fully close and reopen Roblox, then try the game again. If the old block remains, sign out and back in once.
Do not start with cache cleaners, DNS changes, or a reinstall. Those device fixes do not change account-level content controls.
9. Compare another game with the same label
Try one other game that carries the same maturity label. If both are blocked, return to the account and parent-control checks above.
If the other game works, the unavailable game may be unpublished, unavailable in the region, or missing creator-side maturity information. That cannot be repaired from a player’s settings. Wait and contact the game developer or Roblox Support.
If the restriction disappears but Roblox then fails to launch, use the separate fix for when Roblox cannot continue. A quit popup has its own unexpected error fixes, while repeated PC shutdowns need the checks for when Roblox keeps closing.
