Roblox age verification can fail because the camera capture is unclear, the Persona check is being blocked, or repeated attempts have triggered a wait period. Roblox offers a facial age estimate and, for players age 13 or older, verification with a government-issued photo ID.
A successful check can unlock age-based features such as chat, Restricted Content, trusted connections, and TeamCreate. If a different Roblox message appears during the process, the Roblox errors and fixes catalog can point you to the matching solution.
| What you see | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Selfie stays dark or black | Camera permission is blocked or another app is using it | Allow camera access and close other camera apps |
| Face cannot be estimated | Poor light, backlighting, glasses, or a covered face | Face soft light and retake the scan without a hat or glasses |
| Document cannot be verified | Glare, blur, cropped corners, or an expired ID | Retake every requested side with the full document visible |
| Loading never ends | A retry cooldown, blocked Persona window, or service failure | Stop retrying, check for a wait prompt, then remove blockers |
| Check stays pending | The image is hard to read or the document needs more review | Keep the original Roblox session open and wait |
| Wrong age group appears | The estimate did not match your age | Use the correction option that fits your account |

How to make the Roblox age check work
1. Stop if Roblox shows a retry wait
Repeated failures can lock new attempts for a while. The wait varies and can last several days, so follow the time shown in the Roblox prompt when one appears.
An endless loading screen can also happen during this cooldown. Do not keep restarting the check, because another rushed attempt may put you back where you started.
2. Start from Account Info
Open Roblox Settings > Account Info, then choose Continue with selfie or Continue with ID. On desktop, Settings is under the gear icon. On mobile, open More (...) > Settings.
ID verification is only for players age 13 or older. Use your own valid government-issued photo ID, such as a passport, driver's license, or residency card. Never enter a false birthday or borrow someone else's ID.
3. Give the camera permission
The Persona check needs camera access to capture your face or document.
- Allow camera access when your browser or Roblox asks.
- If you denied it earlier, open the device or browser camera settings and allow access for the verification flow.
- Close video-call, camera, and scanning apps that may already be using the camera.
- Restart the check once.
If Roblox itself closes instead of opening the check, use the safer launch fixes for when Roblox keeps closing on PC.
4. Retake the selfie in clear light
Persona needs a clean view of your face, not studio lighting. A nearby lamp is enough.
- Face the light instead of placing it behind you.
- Remove a hat, sunglasses, and anything covering your face.
- Keep your whole face inside the frame.
- Hold still until the capture finishes.
If facial estimation still cannot determine your age and you are 13 or older, Roblox offers ID verification as the official fallback.
5. Retake the ID without glare or cropped edges
Use an unexpired document and make every detail easy to read.
- Put the ID flat on a plain surface.
- Show all four corners in the frame.
- Move away from glare, shadows, and reflections.
- Hold the camera steady until the text is sharp.
- Capture every side or barcode that Persona requests.
Documents that use non-Roman characters may need extra review. Do not edit the image or cover any requested details.
6. Remove connection and browser blockers
A VPN, filtered school or work network, pop-up blocker, or strict content blocker can interrupt the handoff to Persona.
- Turn off the VPN or proxy.
- Pause pop-up and content blockers for the verification flow.
- Switch from a school or work network to a trusted home or mobile connection.
- Retry after any displayed cooldown ends.
If Roblox also shows an access-denied message, the Roblox Error Code 403 fixes cover the related VPN and connection checks.
7. Wait for the result in the original session
Keep the Roblox session that started the check open. A normal result often appears there within a few minutes, while a blurry or partly cropped document can take longer.
Open Settings > Account Info and look beneath your birthday. A successful check shows Verified with a checkmark.
Fix a wrong age group or a result that never saves
8. Use the correct age-change option
The available correction depends on the account.
- If you are 13 or older, choose Continue with ID to correct an inaccurate facial estimate.
- If the account is under 13, use the pencil icon beside the birthday when Roblox offers it.
- A linked parent can change a child's birthday once, unless that account is already ID-verified.
- If an estimate places a self-reported 13+ account under 13, Roblox may apply a 48-hour grace period. Choose Accept now if Roblox offers it and the result is correct.
- If Roblox incorrectly places the account in an adult group, use Reset beneath the birthday. An ID-verification undo is available only once per account.
Use only the real account holder's age and documents. A correction option is for fixing an honest error, not getting around an age restriction.
9. Retry a check that passed but did not save
Sometimes Persona completes the capture but Roblox never records the result. Wait for any cooldown to end, then make one clean retry.
You can also start the Account Info flow on another trusted device or through roblox.com if the Roblox app is stuck. The website handles account settings, but it still launches the installed app when you play an experience. If the installed app cannot continue, the fixes for Roblox cannot continue handle that separate problem.
10. Contact Support for a stuck account
Use Roblox Support if the cooldown has ended and a careful retry still does not save, or if the account settings themselves are unavailable. Include your username, device, the exact message, and where the process stops. Do not send your ID through a normal support message.
Roblox says its support team cannot manually verify an ID, remove an existing verification, or change account settings for you. Support can investigate a technical problem, but it cannot push the age check through.
Roblox also says facial-estimation images and video are deleted after processing, and that Roblox does not receive or store biometric data from that process. Those are Roblox's stated privacy practices for facial age estimation.
