Traits are passive bonuses you attach to skills in Heavyweight Fishing. A skill is a combat ability you bind to a key, and a Trait changes how it performs, whether that means more damage, better critical hits, or shorter cooldowns, the waits between uses. They differ in how often each one turns up when you roll for it. Knowing how Traits work and which ones are rare makes it easier to decide where your crystals are best spent.

What Traits Are and How They Work
A Trait is a passive bonus, so it works on its own once it's attached to a skill. Each skill can hold only one Trait at a time, which means you can't stack several bonuses onto the same ability. Every skill is its own decision, and the Trait it carries shapes how it fights.
How Trait Rerolling Works
Getting a Trait means rolling for one, and every roll costs a Trait Crystal. You talk to Nanjiang to change a skill. Pick the skill, confirm, and a new Trait replaces the old one right away. There's no option to keep what you had, so it pays to know which skill you're investing in before you spend your crystals.
The Best Traits and Why They Stand Out
Vermillion Bird, White Tiger, and Black Tortoise stand out as the best Traits in the game, and all three sit in the rarest group. Vermillion Bird can reset a skill's cooldown once per battle, White Tiger builds critical hit chance with each cast, and Black Tortoise adds healing, a stun, and a short window of invincibility. Azure Dragon is in the same rarest group and gives the largest damage boost of any Trait.
Best Traits for Each Build
Builds generally focus on one of three areas: damage, critical hits, or cooldowns. Each one climbs in steps, so you can improve a skill gradually instead of holding out for the top Trait.
The damage path starts with Berserk, moves to Executioner, and finishes with Azure Dragon. The critical hit path starts with Sharp, moves through Precision and Assassin, and finishes with White Tiger. The cooldown path starts with Swift, moves through Rapid and Chrono, and finishes with Vermillion Bird. The last step in each path is one of the rarest Traits, so it's the one that takes the most luck.
FAQ
Do I have to turn Traits on?
No. Each one works whenever its skill is in use, and a few only kick in under set conditions, such as when your health gets low.
When should I stop rerolling?
It depends on how much you want to spend. Berserk for damage, Precision for critical hits, or Rapid for cooldowns are sensible places to stop if you want to keep the cost down. For most players, Executioner and Chrono are the realistic top end of their builds.
