God powers are the divine abilities you call on during a match in Age of Mythology Retold. Each one comes from the god your civilization follows, and they can call down lightning, shake the ground, heal your army, or rain meteors on enemy buildings. You pay for them with Favor, a resource that builds up during the match, so knowing how it works helps you decide when to strike.

What Are God Powers in Age of Mythology Retold?
A god power is a big ability your chosen god lends you during a match. Some strike a single military unit from the sky, some heal your troops, buildings, and ships, and others shake the map or rain meteors on enemy structures.
Which powers you can use depends on your pantheon. The base game includes the Greek, Egyptian, Norse, and Atlantean pantheons, and the Chinese, Japanese, and Aztec ones came later through expansions. Each pantheon has its own gods and powers, so two players who pick different pantheons will often fight very differently.
The biggest change from the 2002 original is that most powers used to work once per battle. Players often saved them so long that matches ended before they ever fired them. Retold made them reusable, so the real choice is now when to use a power, not whether you will get to use it at all.
How Favor Pays for God Powers
Favor is the resource that pays for god powers. It comes from fighting, from certain buildings tied to your civilization, and from villagers who pray at a Temple. Greek players find that prayer makes Favor easy to produce, but every villager who is praying is one who is not gathering wood, food, or gold. Egyptians collect Favor from monuments instead.
How Repeat Casts and Cooldowns Work
Your first cast of a god power is free. Each repeat cast costs Favor, and the price climbs with every use, so firing the same power over and over gets expensive fast.
Each power also needs time to recharge before it can fire again, and that wait differs from one power to the next. Some come back quickly, while others take several minutes, so you need to plan around the longer ones. Together, the rising cost and the waits keep the strongest powers from being spammed, which helps the game stay balanced.
Once a Wonder is finished, the game moves into a final age called the Wonder Age. Powers cost less Favor and recharge faster during that age, which makes the late game the time when players lean on their powers most.
How to Unlock God Powers
You get your god powers from the gods you follow. Your major god gives you one power from the start. Each time you age up, you choose a minor god, and that god adds its own power, so the minor gods you pick shape what you can call on.
Which God Powers Matter Most
The powers that change a fight fastest are the ones that hit many things at once. Earthquake, Meteor, and Lightning Storm can do heavy damage to an army or a base with a single cast, which is why they stand out.
Single-target and defensive powers are just as useful in the right spot. Zeus's Bolt takes out one military unit, which helps when a key unit is in the way. Restoration heals units, buildings, and ships, and Bronze hardens the armor of your units and ships, so both help your army hold its ground.
Opinions on the exact ranking vary, and balance changes keep moving it, so any tier list is only a snapshot of one moment. The better question is which powers suit your pantheon and your plan. Area powers pay off when enemy units are bunched together, while defensive powers help most when you are the one under pressure.
FAQ
Do I need expansions to use Chinese, Japanese, or Aztec god powers?
Yes. Immortal Pillars brings a reimagined Chinese pantheon with its own scripted campaign, Heavenly Spear adds the Japanese pantheon with a 12-mission campaign, and Obsidian Mirror adds the Aztec pantheon with three major gods, nine minor gods, and its own 12-mission campaign.
Is Favor only used for god powers?
No. Favor also buys divine upgrades and myth technologies at temples, armories, and other buildings tied to your civilization. Those upgrades can raise myth unit damage and hit points or boost their special abilities, so Favor spent on an upgrade is Favor you cannot spend on a power.
How do the Aztec gods get Favor?
The Aztec pantheon runs on Tonalli, the life essence released in battle. Collecting tonalli from fallen units earns Favor, so fighting feeds your gods directly.
