How to Fix Roblox Error Code 533

Updated on July 22, 2026 (about 5 hours ago)

Error Code 533 comes with the message "Your privacy settings prevent you from joining this server." It points first to account permissions that block that server join, commonly while using a private server link or joining a friend. The message does not by itself mean you are banned or that your connection failed.

How to Fix Roblox Error Code 533

How to fix Roblox Error Code 533

1. Check Visibility & private servers

Use the setting that controls private server invitations and membership.

  1. Open Roblox Settings.
  2. Select Privacy and content restrictions.
  3. Open Visibility & private servers.
  4. Select Private servers and allow the option needed for the invitation.
  5. Close Roblox, reopen it, and use a fresh invite from the server owner.

Older instructions may tell you to disable Account Restrictions. Roblox now divides those controls across Content maturity, Communication, and Visibility & private servers, so do not search for one legacy toggle.

2. Confirm the invitation and friend requirement

Ask the owner to send a valid private server invitation and confirm that it is meant for your account. Accounts under 13 can only join private servers created by their friends, so the owner and player must be friends before the join can work.

A settings change cannot bypass that age rule. Add the server owner as a friend, then ask for another invite.

3. Ask the linked parent to change managed settings

A child cannot loosen a setting controlled through a linked parent account. The parent must make the change from their own account.

  1. Open Settings on the parent account.
  2. Select Parental Controls.
  3. Choose the child's account.
  4. Under Settings you manage, open Visibility & private servers.
  5. Set Private Servers to Connections.
  6. Restart Roblox on the child's device and use a fresh invite.

The under-13 friends-only rule still applies after the parent allows connections. If the owner is not the child's friend, fix that relationship first.

4. Refresh the session after permissions are correct

Log out, fully close Roblox, sign in again, and request a new invite. If the same link keeps failing, wait briefly and ask the owner to create or send another one.

Start with account permissions instead of changing firewall rules or clearing device files. If Roblox also fails outside this one server join, the fix for the error that stops Roblox from continuing covers a separate launch problem.

Error 533 and Error 524 need different fixes

Error 533 points to a restriction on your side of the join. Error code 524 means the server has not given your account permission, so the owner needs to invite or allow you. When a different number appears, the Roblox error codes and fixes catalog maps it to the right next step.

FAQ

Q.

Is Roblox Error Code 533 a ban?

Not by itself. The message points to privacy settings that block the server join. Check Visibility & private servers and any parent-managed controls first.

Q.

Why can't my child join a friend's private server even after we changed the settings?

Accounts under 13 can only join private servers created by their friends. The linked parent can allow Connections, but the server owner and child still need to be friends.

Q.

What is the difference between error 533 and error 524?

533 points to privacy settings on your side of the join. Error 524 means the server has not given your account permission, so the owner needs to invite or allow you.
