Error Code 524 comes with the message "You do not have permission to join this game." It is not a crash and not a ban. Roblox is running fine; it is just holding the door shut on this one server.
Almost every 524 involves a private server (some games still call them VIP servers). Either your own privacy settings are blocking the invite, or the server does not actually list you as a guest. Both fixes take about a minute.
| # | Cause | Fastest fix |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Your settings block private server invites | Allow invites in your privacy settings |
| 2 | You are not on the server's invite list | Have the owner add you and send a fresh link |
| 3 | Server down or a Roblox-side glitch | Restart and retry later |

How to fix error code 524
Work through the fixes in order. The first one clears most cases.
1. Allow private server invites in your privacy settings
If your privacy settings block private server invites, the owner can invite you all day and you will still bounce off a 524. Open the door on your side first:
- Open Roblox, click the gear icon, and choose Settings.
- Open Privacy and content restrictions.
- Scroll to Visibility & private servers and find Private servers.
- Pick who can invite you. Everyone is the setting that works in the most cases.
- Ask the owner for a new invite, then join through it.
One rule no setting can bypass: accounts under 13 can only join private servers created by their friends. Have the account and the server owner add each other as friends first, then repeat the invite.
2. Make sure you are actually on the invite list
If your settings are open and 524 still fires, the server probably does not list you as a guest. This part is in the owner's hands, so send them these steps:
- Open the game's page and go to the Servers tab.
- Click Configure on the private server.
- Turn on Friends Allowed (this only helps players on their friends list), or type the exact username under Invited Players.
- Save the changes and send a fresh invite link.
Always join through the newest link. Old links die when the invite is revoked or the server subscription lapses, and a dead link throws the exact same 524.
3. Restart and retry when everything looks correct
Sometimes 524 is not your fault at all. The server can be temporarily unavailable, and Roblox itself has had stretches where invite links threw false 524s.
- Close Roblox completely and reopen it.
- Restart your device if the retry fails.
- Launch from the Roblox app itself instead of clicking the invite link in your browser.
- Wait a while and try again; a Roblox-side 524 clears on its own.
- As a last resort, reinstall Roblox from roblox.com/download. Your items and progress stay on your account, so nothing is lost.
