Fisch Appraisal Guide: How It Works and When to Use It

Have a rare, event-limited, or unusually light catch in Fisch and aren't sure whether to sell it or try for a better version? The Moosewood Appraiser can reroll a catch's weight and possibly add or change a mutation, which makes it useful when you have a clear target such as a heavier specimen or a required mutation. The result is random, and the standard fee scales with the catch's current value, so appraisal is a choice to make around a goal rather than a routine price check.

Here's where to go, what to select, and how to judge the result.

How to Find the Appraiser in Fisch

The standard Appraiser is in Moosewood beside the Merchant's shop, tucked partly behind the rods display. Go to the Merchant's stall and look on the shop's side for the NPC.

Bring the fish or other eligible catch you want to change in your inventory or hotbar. You will hold it while interacting with the Appraiser, so have the target catch ready before you start the conversation.

How to Appraise a Fish in Fisch

At the Moosewood stall, the appraisal takes a few selections:

1. Equip or hold the fish you want to appraise.
2. Interact with the Appraiser.
3. Choose Can you appraise this fish?
4. Check the C$ amount in the confirmation prompt.
5. Confirm if you want to accept the roll.

The standard service charges 30% of the held catch's current C$ value. The game shows the amount before you commit, and the fee is not a fixed price. If you appraise the catch again later, check the new prompt because the fee uses the catch's then-current value.

After confirmation, the catch updates with a new weight and a possible mutation.

What Does Appraisal Change in Fisch?

A normal appraisal rerolls two connected parts of the catch: its weight and its mutation state. The weight can go up or down, which changes the fish's sale value. The mutation result can add a mutation to a clean catch or replace an existing one, so a roll can help with a value goal, a mutation requirement, or neither.

That replacement has an important exception. Shiny and Sparkling stay on the catch through a normal appraisal, but any other existing mutation can be replaced by the new mutation roll. The same catch can be appraised again, but every repeat is another random result and the percentage fee is based on the catch's current value at that attempt.

When Should You Appraise a Fish in Fisch?

Appraisal makes the most sense when the catch is hard to replace or when the result has a specific job to do. Good candidates include rare or high-value fish, event-limited catches, and valuable fish that came in unusually underweight. A catchable material such as an Enchant Relic can also be worth considering when you need a specific mutation for a rod or door requirement; the Fisch enchantments collection provides useful context for that goal.

Routine low-value fish usually don't have enough upside to justify a percentage fee. If the catch already has a desired mutation other than Shiny or Sparkling, only reroll it when the new target matters more than keeping the current one. Before confirming, compare the displayed fee with your budget and ask whether the result you want would change what you do next.

When to time an appraisal

If you are already willing to pay for a roll, named event windows can make the attempt more purposeful. Mutation Surge is the mutation-focused option, Shiny Surge is the Shiny-focused option, and Night of the Luminous is another favorable window for a planned appraisal while active. Appraiser's Luck changes appraisal luck and the fee, so use the amount shown in the current prompt instead of relying on older flat-fee figures.

These windows and boosts improve the relevant conditions, but they do not guarantee a particular result. Mutation odds vary by the named mutation, event, and appraiser type, so there is no single universal percentage to plan around. Make the decision from the catch's goal, current value, and displayed fee, then stop once the result meets that goal; a miss is not a reason to chase the loss with an automatic second roll.

Drowned and Treasure Appraisers vs. Moosewood in Fisch

The appraisal stations are in different locations and serve different goals. The Moosewood route above is the standard weight-and-mutation reroll; the Drowned Appraiser and Treasure Appraiser are separate advanced services, not steps required to use it.

Use the Moosewood Appraiser for the ordinary reroll, the Drowned Appraiser when its mutation and weight tradeoff fits the catch, and the Treasure Appraiser only when you want its weight-focused minigame. Treasure does not reroll mutations, so the higher-cost routes are not automatically better versions of the Moosewood service.
