Anime Expeditions: How to Unlock and Use Jester

Updated on September 2, 2026 (about 10 hours ago)

Quick answer: Jester is an Exclusive unit tied to the Season 2 Battlepass. Normal Jester is the Free Level 50 reward. Earn Battlepass EXP by defeating enemies and completing quests, then claim him at Level 50. Jester is not a banner pull.

Jester's weapon is automatic: it randomly cycles Scythe, Rifle, and Mace. You cannot choose the result, so your placement needs to work with more than one weapon.

How to unlock Jester in Anime Expeditions

Open the Season 2 Battlepass and follow the reward path:

  1. Earn Battlepass EXP: Defeat enemies during your runs.
  2. Complete Battlepass quests: Use the quests shown in the current UI for more EXP.
  3. Reach Level 50: Keep filling the Battlepass EXP bar until the Level 50 reward unlocks.
  4. Claim Normal Jester: Select the Free track reward at Level 50.

If you want Shiny Jester, check the live Battlepass UI to confirm that it is the Level 50 reward on the paid track before spending Robux. Confirm the track label and displayed cost in-game because paid-track details can change. If you are comparing another Exclusive unit, its separate unlock route is covered in the Anime Expeditions Kitsune unlock details.

How Jester's three weapon rolls work

Jester rolls a weapon when a wave starts and rolls again after 20 seconds. The result is random, so there is no menu for choosing Scythe, Rifle, or Mace. The Mace result changes the normal sequence as shown below.

RollListed effectsPractical use
ScytheFull AoE with +25% damage. Its cone can continue beyond normal range.A good starting spot is near clustered enemies, where the wide hit pattern can reach more targets.
RifleLine AoE, Bleed, a 3-second firing window, and a listed -25% SPA effect. The SPA reduction is part of Rifle's attack effect, not a global modifier.A straight or central lane is a practical starting point for lining up targets.
MaceCreates a 15-second clone. The clone rolls Scythe or Rifle, while Jester immediately rolls again. The third roll has a 30-second cooldown.Treat the clone as a short extra attack window while Jester enters its next weapon state.

If Jester rolls the same weapon again, Bored Jester triggers. The next roll timer is 5 seconds shorter, the current weapon deals 25% more damage, and that weapon is blocked from the next roll. The game handles this automatically, so you still cannot force the replacement weapon.

Build your placement around several useful outcomes instead of waiting for one perfect roll. Scythe fits clustered lanes, while Rifle benefits from a straight path through enemies. These are practical starting points, not universal placement rules.

Does Jester evolve or have an active ability?

Jester has no evolution in the current unit setup, so there is no evolution step to complete before using it. Its special behavior comes from Jester Roll and the weapon passives. Jester has no separate active ability to trigger.

Other units follow different upgrade paths, and the Anime Expeditions evolution guide explains how those work. For broad roster context, the Anime Expeditions tier list can help compare units, but Jester's automatic weapon roll should guide your placement in each run.
