100 Days At Sea companion tier list: best pets to equip

Updated on July 30, 2026 (1 day ago)

You only equip one companion at a time in 100 Days At Sea. Match the buff to the problem that is actually ending your run.

On a normal Day 1 to 100 survival route, chase wipe-prevention pets first (Snowman, Crow, Seagull, Penguin), then rare automation (Salamander), then best combat when fights matter (Pirate Gunner or a +10% melee pet). Food-starved sails want food pets. Island and boss fights want gun or melee. Loot chore pressure wants Salamander.

Companions unlock from Pearl chests in the Companion Shop, not by buying a named pet. Full buff text, chest pools, and drop chances live on the companions collection. Pearls also compete with classes, and 100 Days At Sea codes can help stock up.

100 Days At Sea companion tier list: best pets to equip

S Tier

Snowman companion icon in 100 Days At SeaSnowmanCrowd ControlSlows nearby enemies by 20%Ice / 120 PearlsUnique slow that buys time in messy fights
Penguin companion icon in 100 Days At SeaPenguinHealingSpawns a bandage every 220 secondsIce / 120 PearlsFree heal items on a timer
Crow companion icon in 100 Days At SeaCrowFood GatherBrings food every 120 secondsMagma / 120 PearlsStops hunger wipes on long sails
Seagull companion icon in 100 Days At SeaSeagullFood GatherBrings food every 120 secondsPirate / 120 PearlsSame food loop as Crow from Pirate Chest
Salamander companion icon in 100 Days At SeaSalamanderLootPicks up and delivers loot nearbyMagma / 120 PearlsRare loot pickup automation
Pirate Gunner companion icon in 100 Days At SeaPirate GunnerGun Damage+10% gun damagePirate / 120 PearlsBest listed gun buff

S Tier holds the pets that either stop wipe pressure or are honestly best at one rare job. Snowman, Crow, Seagull, and Penguin keep runs alive when control, food, or healing is the real problem. Salamander clears loot chores instead of stacking another damage percent. Pirate Gunner is the gun ceiling when ranged fights are your plan.

If you are Pearl-tight, do not force Magma or Pirate rares first. Open Fisherman's and Warrior for usable mid buffs, then spend 120-Pearl chests on the role you still lack. Food pressure points Pirate or Magma for Seagull or Crow. Gun builds want Pirate. Loot pressure wants Magma for Salamander. Kite-heavy fights want Ice for Snowman or Penguin.

A Tier

ImageCompanionRoleBuffChest / costWhy it ranks
Swordfish companion icon in 100 Days At SeaSwordfishMelee Damage+10% melee damageWarrior or Pirate / 80-120 PearlsTop melee line; rare from two chests
Magma Golem companion icon in 100 Days At SeaMagma GolemMelee Damage+10% melee damageMagma / 120 PearlsSame +10% melee ceiling from Magma
Polar Bear companion icon in 100 Days At SeaPolar BearMelee Damage+10% melee damageIce / 120 PearlsSame +10% melee as a common Ice roll
Octopus companion icon in 100 Days At SeaOctopusMaterialsBrings materials every 120 secondsWarrior / 80 PearlsStrong materials timer at mid chest cost
Arctic Wolf companion icon in 100 Days At SeaArctic WolfSprint+10% sprint speedIce / 120 PearlsHighest listed sprint buff

A Tier is the combat and mobility ceiling once wipe pressure is handled. Swordfish, Magma Golem, and Polar Bear all give +10% melee. Polar Bear is the teaching point: it matches the rare melee pets on paper and drops as a common Ice roll, so Ice can be a smarter Pearl spend than chasing Magma Golem only for damage.

Octopus sits here as the materials automation pick. It is not unique wipe insurance like Snowman, and it is not loot pickup like Salamander, but the 120-second materials loop is hard to replace and costs only 80 Pearls from Warrior. Arctic Wolf is the sprint cap for island hopping and kite routes.

B Tier

ImageCompanionRoleBuffChest / costWhy it ranks
Shark companion icon in 100 Days At SeaSharkMelee Damage+7.5% melee damageFisherman's or Warrior / 40-80 PearlsSolid melee until a +10% pet
Dolphin companion icon in 100 Days At SeaDolphinSprint+7.5% sprint speedFisherman's or Magma / 40-120 PearlsStrong early sprint; also Magma
Whale companion icon in 100 Days At SeaWhaleHealth+7.5% healthPirate / 120 PearlsMid health bump while waiting on better roles
Parrot companion icon in 100 Days At SeaParrotGun Damage+7.5% gun damagePirate / 120 PearlsGun filler until Pirate Gunner
Lava Snail companion icon in 100 Days At SeaLava SnailHunger7.5% less hungryMagma / 120 PearlsBetter hunger % than Frog
Orca companion icon in 100 Days At SeaOrcaHealth+7.5% healthIce / 120 PearlsHealth buff, same tier as Whale

B Tier covers the +7.5% combat, sprint, health, and hunger pets. They are fine while you wait on S or A roles, and Shark or Dolphin are especially useful early because they can appear from cheaper chests.

Orca is health +7.5%, not sprint. Use it like Whale for durability until Snowman, Penguin, or a stronger combat buff shows up. Lava Snail beats Frog on hunger percent, but Crow or Seagull usually fix food better by delivering meals.

C Tier

ImageCompanionRoleBuffChest / costWhy it ranks
Turtle companion icon in 100 Days At SeaTurtleHealth+5% healthFisherman's / 40 PearlsCheap early health
Snorf companion icon in 100 Days At SeaSnorfHealth+5% healthWarrior / 80 PearlsSame +5% health as Turtle
Cat companion icon in 100 Days At SeaCatSprint+5% sprint speedWarrior / 80 PearlsSmall sprint bump
Crab companion icon in 100 Days At SeaCrabGun Damage+5% gun damageFisherman's / 40 PearlsTiny gun bump for early ranged

C Tier pets are Fisherman's and Warrior fillers. Keep them while Pearls are scarce, then replace with any matching B or higher buff. Turtle and Crab are fine first rolls from the 40-Pearl chest. Cat and Snorf are the same idea at 80 Pearls: usable, not a long-term target.

D Tier

ImageCompanionRoleBuffChest / costWhy it ranks
Frog companion icon in 100 Days At SeaFrogHunger5% less hungryFisherman's / 40 PearlsWeakest long-term hunger option

Frog is fine for one early Fisherman's roll, then it ages out fast. Lava Snail is a stronger hunger percent, and Crow or Seagull usually fix food better by delivering meals on a timer.

Spend Pearls in order: Fisherman's for cheap fillers, Warrior for Shark, Swordfish, or Octopus, then the 120-Pearl chest that matches the role you still lack. Pair the companion with your class plan, and use the 100 Days At Sea wiki when you need the wider loop around islands and bosses.

FAQ

Q.

Can you equip more than one companion in 100 Days At Sea?

No. You equip one companion at a time. Buffs are passive, so swap to match the bottleneck ending your run.

Q.

Which companions drop from more than one chest?

Shark can drop from Fisherman's and Warrior. Dolphin can drop from Fisherman's and Magma. Swordfish can drop from Warrior and Pirate.

Q.

Which companion chest should beginners open first?

Start with Fisherman's Chest at 40 Pearls for cheap fillers, then Warrior at 80 Pearls. Save 120-Pearl Ice, Pirate, or Magma chests for the role you still lack.

Q.

Is Polar Bear as good as Swordfish or Magma Golem?

On paper, yes for melee: all three give +10% melee damage. Polar Bear is a common Ice Chest roll, so it is often the cheaper way to reach that melee ceiling.
