Gundam SEED units are the mobile suits from Mobile Suit Gundam SEED, SEED Astray, SEED MSV and SEED Recollection that you can field in SD Gundam G Generation ETERNAL. You line them up in squads of five unit-and-character pairs, led by a Supporter, and send them into battles on maps. Every unit has a type, a rarity and a set of terrain ratings, and together those decide where it fights and what job it does. Knowing how these pieces fit makes it much easier to build a squad that can handle the battles you face.

How Gundam SEED Units Fit Into a Squad
A squad in SD Gundam G Generation ETERNAL is five unit-and-character pairs plus one Supporter. The Supporter has a Leader Skill that boosts the units that meet its conditions, so a Gundam SEED unit gets that boost only when it fits what the Supporter asks for. Each unit also carries Unit Abilities, passive boosts such as Increased ATK or an Advantage ability tied to a series, and these work without you doing anything during a battle.
Because a squad has room for only five pairs, each Gundam SEED unit has to earn its place. Look at what your squad is missing, whether that's damage, toughness or extra firepower, and pick the unit that fills that gap.
Attack, Durability and Support Types
Every Gundam SEED unit has one of three types, and each does a different job. Attack units deal the main damage in a fight. Durability units take hits for nearby allies, which is called support defense, so they protect the units beside them. Support units join allied attacks, which is called support attacks, so they add to what your other units do.
Placement matters for Durability units, because they only cover allies that are nearby. Keep them close to the attackers they need to protect. Don't mix up the Support type with the Supporter. The Supporter is the single slot that leads the squad, while Support is a type a unit carries.
Where Gundam SEED Units Can Fight
Each Gundam SEED unit has a rating for five terrains: Space, Air, Ground, Surface and Underwater. A rating is either full strength, limited, or unable to sortie, which means the unit can't be sent out on that terrain at all. A limited rating means the unit can still go, but it won't fight at full strength there. It's worth checking these ratings before you build a squad for a map.
Rarity and EX Units
Rarity runs N, R, SR, SSR and UR, with UR at the top of the ladder. Units marked (EX) are UR units that carry an EX weapon, and that weapon is what sets them apart. EX weapons can't miss, and damage resistance doesn't reduce them, so they stay reliable against enemies with strong damage resistance.
Which Gundam SEED Units Are Worth Building
Which unit to build first depends on what your squad lacks. A UR unit with an EX weapon is the pick when you need damage that doesn't miss, and Freedom Gundam (EX), a Support unit, is an example of that kind. When your front line needs someone to take hits, look at a Durability unit, such as Justice Gundam (EX).
How to Get Gundam SEED Units
Gundam SEED units come from three places. Unit Assembly is the gacha draw, and since it's random, you can't count on any particular unit turning up. Stage and event rewards give you units as you play, and some units can be captured during stages.
Development works differently, because it builds a unit from units you already own, following the Development Diagram made for its series. Super Hyperion Gundam is one SEED unit that comes this way.
FAQ
Why won't my Gundam SEED unit deploy on a space map?
If a unit won't deploy on a space map, check its Space rating first. A unit with no Space rating can't be deployed there, even if its ratings on other terrain are full strength.
What are unit tags, and why do they matter?
Tags are labels a unit carries, and some pilot and Supporter bonuses check them. A unit can miss out on a bonus simply because its tags don't match what the bonus asks for, so check tags against your Supporter before you commit to a squad.
What else do you need to develop a Gundam SEED unit?
Development also takes Capital and special items on top of the units you use. Gather those before you start, since a build can't go ahead without them.
