Two-piece versus four-piece thinking
A four-piece bonus is usually where a set's identity lives, and the best stats hide behind it, so committing to one set beats splitting fashionably. The respectable exception is pairing two two-piece bonuses when their effects cover different stats better than any single four-piece does; the math per set decides.
