How to Learn Potion and Candy Recipes
You can't brew a potion or candy until its recipe is in your Witch's Encyclopedia. Recipes usually come on scrolls, which you can find in the world or receive from quests. Holding a scroll isn't enough, though. You have to open your inventory and use it, and then the recipe is added to your Encyclopedia and appears at the Witch's Pot.
Some recipes are known from the start, including the Sunlight Potion, Weed Extermination Potion, Healing Candy and Curse-lifting Candy. The rest are bought from Diane, who runs the Witches' Catalogue, for Luna Coins, or come from quests. Diane doesn't stock everything right away, so some recipes only show up for sale after you've reached a certain point in the story.
How Brewing Works in the Witch's Pot
Many ingredients need prep before they go in the pot. The Extractor turns raw plants into extracts, the Roaster cooks certain ingredients, and the Mixer handles other prep. Once everything is ready, you add it to the Witch's Pot and brew.
Each recipe sets its own fire level and stirring direction, so check those settings before you start. Brewing the same potion several times unlocks Auto Craft, which makes the process much faster.
Where Ingredients Come From and How Regions Matter
Ingredients come from the places you explore, so the map decides what you can brew at any point. Some ingredients only show up at certain times of day, so it helps to check when you go looking. Each region has its own potions and candies, which means new areas bring new things to make. The Sunlight Potion shows this well, since it has a separate formula for each region.
Which Potions Matter Most for the Story
A few potions are tied closely to the main story, and the Sunlight Potion is the clearest case. It clears the Blue Moon Butterflies off the Shining Tree so you can collect Moonflowers, and that only works during the main quest.
Enhance Intellect is another one to watch for. Drinking it lets Ellie read an unreadable memo in the Witch's House, which reveals the Moon Tears recipe the story needs. Firecracker Potion also becomes important later on, since the main story requires it.
The Weed Extermination Potion is a good one to try early, since you already have its recipe, and it removes the stubborn weeds that block paths around the forest.
How Candies Earn Coins
Candies are mostly a quick way to turn your brewing into coins. Vendors buy them for Luna Coins and Gold Coins, so they're handy when you need money in a hurry.
Aurea and Diane also run candy delivery requests, which give candies a use beyond selling. The Curse-lifting Candy has a story job too, since it's the one you use to break a curse.

What's the difference between Luna Coins and Gold Coins?
Luna Coins come mostly from Diane, and you spend them in the Witches' Catalogue on recipes and work tool upgrades. Gold Coins are the everyday currency you spend around the village. Diane's and Aurea's candy delivery requests are a steady way to earn both.
Where do I find ingredients for the early potions?
Witchflowers and Squishychubs both live on the Green Forest Plains. Witchflowers can be gathered day or night, while Squishychubs only show up during the day. One Eye Frogs are harder to find, since they only come out at night near the lake in the Green Forest Waterfall area. You'll need the Net before you can catch one.
