In Little Witch in the Woods, a cozy pixel-art life sim from Sunny Side Up, you play Ellie, an apprentice witch whose train leaves her stranded in the forest. Her new job is helping Wisteria, a village that thorn vines have damaged. Along the way, you fly around forests, caves, cliffs, and lakes on your broom and gather ingredients, then brew them into potions that solve problems and open new paths. Candies are brewed the same way, and you can sell both potions and candies to Diane for Luna Coins.
Time moves on a day and night cycle, and the clock keeps ticking while you play. Some zones pause the clock, which gives you room to farm and gather without the day slipping away. The forest's wildlife changes its looks and behavior from day to night, and sleeping in bed refills Ellie's stamina for the next day.
Your long-term goal is to restore Wisteria and finish your apprenticeship, which is how Ellie becomes a full witch. Along the way, you fish, decorate your house, win over cats, and make friends with the villagers, who share their stories as those friendships grow. Creatures, plants, fish, and recipes all go into the Witch's Encyclopedia, and completing it lets Ellie run for longer.

Game data
Potions and Candies
Potions and candies are brewed in the Witch's Pot from ingredients gathered across the map, and many get processed first with the Extractor, Roaster or Mixer. Potions mostly help players move through the story, travel, and gather what they need, while candies are mainly sold to vendors for Luna Coins and Gold Coins. Recipes come from scrolls, quest rewards, and Diane's shop, and a few are known from the start. Each region has its own mix of potions and candies, so exploring new areas keeps the list growing.
Plants and Ingredients
Plants and ingredients are the raw materials Ellie gathers around the map for her potions and candy. Plants such as Witchflower, Maple Herb and Little Mandrake are collected with gloves, a net or a trowel, and their harvests go through the Extractor, the Roaster or the Mixer. Wild foods are a separate group that Ellie eats to restore energy.
Collectibles
Creatures
Creatures are the animals, insects and odd critters you can find across Green Forest, Cloud Valley and Starlit Cave. Ellie records them in her Witch's Encyclopedia with the quill, and many give up fur, feathers, shells or water that go into potions and candies. A few special creatures, including the Gaga Bird, Honey Bear and Mimic Jelly, block the way forward or drop useful items. Insects and pollen-emitting plants need a net to collect.
Fish
Fishing is one of the everyday activities in Little Witch in the Woods. Its fish are spread across Green Forest, Cloud Valley and Starlit Cave, with each area having its own fishing spots in ponds, rivers and waterfalls. You catch them with a rod, sell them to Freddie for gold, and record them in the Fish Encyclopedia.
Cats
The cats of Little Witch in the Woods live around the village of Wisteria. They are split between active cats that roam and get into mischief and lazy cats that move slowly and take time to trust. Each one has its own personality and favorite fish, and a cat that trusts you fully can be adopted to live at your Witch's House.
Little Witch in the Woods gameplay tips
- Gather several items on each trip. Pick up a few ingredients before you head home instead of returning after every one. That saves you walking later on.
- Brew a few spare potions before you reach new areas. Some areas need a specific potion to get through, and having extras on hand means you're ready when you arrive.
- Keep your distance when you sketch creatures. Getting too close can scare a creature away before you finish drawing it for the Encyclopedia.
- Explore each area during both day and night. A few creatures and plants only show up after dark, so skipping nights leaves gaps in your Encyclopedia.
- Give villagers gifts that suit their taste. Those gifts help you get closer faster, and gifts start arriving in your mailbox once friendship reaches Level 2.
