Little Witch in the Woods is a cozy game where you play as a young witch named Ellie, exploring Green Forest, Cloud Valley and Starlit Cave. Fishing is one of the game's everyday activities, and the fish living in its ponds, rivers and waterfalls are what you catch with a rod, sell for gold and record in your Fish Encyclopedia. You can collect and keep track of every fish as you play, from where each one lives to when it shows up.

How to Catch Fish in Little Witch in the Woods
Your first fishing rod comes from Freddie, a bear who fishes near the Green Forest Waterfall. Once you have it, you can cast into ponds and rivers across each region. Before anything bites, a fish's shadow swims toward your line, and its size (small, medium or large) hints at which fish it could be. That hint helps you decide what you're about to reel in.
When a fish bites, press the button to start reeling, then mash it quickly to bring the fish in before it escapes.
Where to Fish in Green Forest, Cloud Valley and Starlit Cave
Where you cast matters, because each area has its own fishing spots and its own fish. In Green Forest, you fish at the Green Forest Waterfall and in Wisteria. In Cloud Valley the spots are downstream, and in Starlit Cave they are at the bottom. Some fish turn up at more than one spot in the same area, so it's worth trying each spot before you move on.
When Fish Appear: Day, Night and All Day
Time of day changes which fish you can catch. Some fish only show up during the day, some only at night, and many are around all day long. If a spot seems quiet, come back at the other time, since the fish you're after may only appear then. Keeping the clock in mind saves you from waiting around a spot for nothing.
Fishing Bait: Where to Get It and How Trades Work
Freddie sells several kinds of bait, and some villagers give bait as your friendship with them grows. You can also trade spare fish to Freddie for bait, which lets you turn catches into bait without selling them for gold. Higher-grade fish and special versions give more bait per trade than common ones. Trades don't count toward the shop's daily sales limit, so they never cut into how much you can sell in a day.
Selling Fish and Which Ones Pay the Most
Freddie buys your catches for gold, and every fish has two sell prices: a common one and a much higher special one. Fish fall into three price tiers that match their one to three star rarity. If gold is your goal, the three-star fish are the place to start, since their special versions sell for more than any other fish, but they are also the hardest to find.
Fish Encyclopedia and Fish Tanks
Filling the Fish Encyclopedia is the main goal of fishing, and it's where your progress is kept. Freddie rewards you with a Fish Tank for each fish you complete, and every fish has both a regular tank and a special one. The tanks are furniture you can place as decor in the Witch's House, so your collection can be on show at home.
FAQ
How many catches do you need to fill a fish's Encyclopedia entry?
Each fish is tracked in a regular version and a special version, and the special version needs fewer catches to finish. Once an entry is complete, Freddie gives you a Fish Tank based on that fish, and each fish has both a regular and a special tank. Updates have lowered these requirements before, so the exact number can change from one version of the game to the next.
Can you give fish to cats and villagers?
Yes. Some villagers will take fish as gifts, and giving fish to the cats around the village is one way to build up their affection. Because of this, it's worth keeping a few fish on hand instead of selling every catch.
What do the 1 to 3 stars on a fish mean?
The stars show how hard a fish is to catch, which tells you how rare it is. One-star fish are the common ones, two-star fish are uncommon, and three-star fish are the rarest. Green Witch is one of the three-star fish.
