In Red Dead Revolver, a gun shop only sells certain guns, and only at set points in the story: the start of a chapter, or Brimstone after a chapter ends. Story pickups and enemy drops fill in the rest. Some weapons stay in Red's inventory, while others belong to the character you're playing or show up for one fight.
Weapon category
Side arms
Weapons are grouped by type, not by owner, so the Showstoppers, a named pair of revolvers, sit with the side arms. Not every handgun is for sale. Several come from the story or from enemies, and The Scorpion comes from Chapter 27.

What to buy early
The Owl Rifle is free. Red gets it at the start of Chapter 2, so your first rifle costs nothing. The Repeater Rifle is the only rifle you can buy before Chapter 22, at $800 from Brimstone after Chapter 10.
The Revolver is the cheapest handgun you can buy, at $100 from the start of Chapter 3. Upgrading one you already carry costs another $100, which makes it the easiest sidearm upgrade to afford early.
The Knife is the cheapest thrown weapon at $75, sold from the start of Chapter 2. Enemies drop it too, so you may never need to buy one. Dynamite costs $220 and sells at the start of Chapters 6, 8, 9 or 20.
The Breech Loader is the shotgun to buy first. It costs $220 from the start of Chapter 4 or at Brimstone after Chapter 5, and you can also pick it up during the story.
The Chapter 22 Brimstone trip
Brimstone after Chapter 22 is the big shopping visit. Escopeta costs $950 there, and The Lion's upgrade costs $1,500. The Halcon Rifle upgrade is $300 and the Bayonet Rifle upgrade is $400 at the same stop. The Repeater Rifle upgrade runs from $400 to $1,200 after Chapter 22, so bring $1,200 if you want to be sure.
Escopeta, The Lion's upgrade, and the Halcon and Bayonet upgrades only sell at that stop, so save for it. If money runs short, Widowmaker ($2,000), High Caliber Rifle ($3,000) and 12 Gauge Shotgun ($675) can wait for the start of Chapter 25.
Guns with only one chance to buy
- Fire Bottle ($200) sells only at the start of Chapter 14.
- Snake Oil ($400) sells at the start of Chapter 16. Turn back into the prison cell to reach the skeleton's shop. Leave the area and the offer is gone until you play through again.
Character weapons and where they come from
Several guns come from a character's mission, and no shop sells them. Jack Swift starts Chapter 7 with the Showstoppers. Annie Stoakes uses Faith in Chapter 11, and Shadow Wolf can also pick it up in Chapter 15: take the path just before the campfire drop to a cave and shoot the chest. Shadow Wolf starts Chapter 15 with the Sacred Bow. General Javier Diego starts Chapter 13 with Martillo del Dios, and Buffalo Soldier starts Chapter 18 with the Lightning Rifle.
Upgrades and common mistakes
Buying a gun doesn't include its upgrade. Some upgrades have a separate price; others unlock after a chapter or rating.
- The Revolver upgrade costs $100, but only for a Revolver you already carry, so buy the gun first.
- The Six Shooter upgrade is $150 after Chapter 5, 7 or 8. The Sawn-Off Shotgun upgrade is $500 at Brimstone after Chapter 7 or 8.
- The Owl Rifle upgrade unlocks with a Good rating in Chapter 5. The Breech Loader upgrade unlocks with an Excellent rating in Chapter 7. Keep those ratings in mind as you play, since they decide whether the upgrade opens.
FAQ
Does this cover Showdown or multiplayer weapons?
No. This covers Red Dead Revolver's Story Mode only. Showdown loadouts and multiplayer-only pickups are left out.
What do the journal numbers mean?
They show where each gun is recorded in Sheriff Bartlett's Journal. The journal tracks how each entry opens, which can be story progress, a rating or a shop purchase. For the details, see Journal Entries.
