Black Briar is one of Grand Blue's Mythical primary weapons, but it is not a shop purchase. You need to make a Handle, earn rare Obsidian from World Boss Chests, and then return to the blacksmith to craft the sword.
Grand Blue is in Early Access, so recipe labels and drop details can change. If your Crafting Table or Logbook shows a different requirement, follow the live in-game display.
How to Get Black Briar in Grand Blue
Black Briar is crafted at the Blacksmith's Crafting Table in Anchor Town. The final recipe is 2 Obsidian and 1 Handle, with the Handle acting as its own prerequisite craft.
| Stage | What you need | Where it happens |
|---|---|---|
| Unlock the Handle | Speak to Craftsman Henry if the recipe is locked | Anchor Town Blacksmith |
| Craft the Handle | 2 Sticks and 1 Cloth, subject to the live recipe display | Crafting Table beside Henry |
| Get Obsidian | 2 Obsidian from World Boss Chests | An announced World Boss event |
| Make Black Briar | 1 Handle and 2 Obsidian | Anchor Town Blacksmith's Crafting Table |
The Henry quest hand-in and the later Handle craft are separate actions. Keep them separate while you gather materials instead of assuming that one material total covers both steps.
How to Unlock and Craft the Handle in Grand Blue
Check the Crafting Table near the Anchor Town blacksmith before doing extra work. If Handle is already available, you can skip the unlock step and use the recipe shown in your game. If it is locked, Craftsman Henry is the next stop.
Unlock the Handle recipe through Craftsman Henry
- Go to the Anchor Town Blacksmith and speak to Craftsman Henry. If you are still learning the town layout, the Grand Blue NPC Locations Guide can help you find the blacksmith and other quest givers.
- Open the quest log and check Anchor Town > Side Quests > Handle Recipe.
- Collect the materials listed for the objective: 2 Sticks and 1 Cloth. Sticks are tied to breakable wooden boxes, barrels, and crates around Anchor Town.
- Return to Henry after completing the objective. He gives you the Handle Recipe, which unlocks the Handle at the nearby Crafting Table.
Cloth has less consistent farming advice. Start with the breakable containers around Anchor Town, and if Cloth does not appear there, check enemy drops as another reported source.
Craft the Handle at the Anchor Town Crafting Table
Select Handle at the table beside Henry and use the quantities shown by the live interface. For planning, gather 2 Sticks and 1 Cloth, then verify that the live table or Logbook shows those quantities before you confirm the craft.
When the craft succeeds, the Handle is available as the material for Black Briar. If you used Henry's quest, compare your inventory with the live recipe after the hand-in and gather more only if the table asks for the same items again.
How to Get Obsidian from World Boss Chests in Grand Blue
Obsidian is a rare World Boss Chest material. The route to it is the World Boss event, not a normal mining or shop run, so mining around Anchor Town will not replace the boss-event route.
Use the live server alert to turn each World Boss appearance into a chest attempt:
- Wait for the server alert announcing a World Boss and its location.
- Travel to the announced location.
- Enter the boss portal and wait for the preparation timer to finish.
- Participate in defeating the boss, either on your own or with other players.
- Claim the World Boss Chest after the encounter.
The chest can contain Obsidian, but there is no stable exact drop chance to plan around here. Keep joining the announced events until you have the 2 Obsidian needed for the final recipe, and use the current in-game reward state as your check.
Grand Blue Black Briar Crafting Requirements and Final Craft
Once you have the prerequisite Handle and 2 Obsidian, return to the Crafting Table at the Anchor Town Blacksmith and open the Black Briar recipe.

| Ingredient | Amount | Source or action |
|---|---|---|
| Handle | 1 | Craft it at the nearby table after unlocking the recipe if needed |
| Obsidian | 2 | Earn it from World Boss Chests |
Select Black Briar, confirm that the live recipe still shows 1 Handle and 2 Obsidian, and press Craft. The completion check is the craft confirmation and the weapon appearing in your inventory.
How to Equip and Use Black Briar in Grand Blue
The sword is added to your inventory immediately after a successful craft.

Check the live item tooltip for Black Briar's equip requirement before assuming you can use it right away. Level 110 is the reported requirement, but the Early Access version can change that value. If you meet the displayed requirement, equip the sword from your inventory; if not, leave it there and continue progressing until the tooltip allows it. Once equipped, you can use it against enemies for normal weapon progression.
