Chrono Warfare Tower Defense is BoringGames Studio’s unfinished Roblox tower defense, and the official successor to Evolution Evade. Units unlock through progression, not gacha, while credits stay tight every wave.
There is no farm unit. That alone knocks expensive low-impact towers down the board. This list ranks overall PvE credit efficiency for the live 13-tower roster across Prehistoric Times and Ancient Civilizations. Treat it as early August 2026 community and editorial consensus, not official BoringGames balance. Patches can shuffle names fast.
Criteria, in order: credit efficiency and upgrade value, clear reliability on normal stages, then unique answers (invisible reveal, stun bait, early bridge). A high ceiling on one map does not buy an S rank. Unreleased or canceled leads (Trebuchet, Campfire, Farm) stay off the board.

S Tier
| Image | Unit | Role | Strengths | Weaknesses |
|---|---|---|---|---|
![]() | Archer | Ranged DPS | Efficient damage with clean upgrade scaling; carries long stretches once online | Needs board space; recheck after patches if pure spam softens |
![]() | Ballista | Heavy ranged | High ranged punch when credits allow | Costlier than Archer; sell if heavily damaged to reclaim value |
![]() | Pack Hunter | Elite utility DPS | Ability reveals invisible enemies; still useful outside that niche | Gated unlock; not free early power |
Archer is the ranged default when every credit counts. A few upgraded Archers turn most normal stages into cleaner routes.
Ballista is the heavier cousin. It hits hard, costs more, and rewards selling a wrecked piece instead of parking dead value on the path.
Pack Hunter earns S for the invisible answer plus broad utility. The unlock is a real hurdle, but once the unit is yours, that kit stays relevant.
A Tier
| Image | Unit | Role | Strengths | Weaknesses |
|---|---|---|---|---|
![]() | Legionary | Melee front line | Best melee body and strong starter; better credit value than Knight or Clubman | Melee range only; still needs ranged support |
![]() | Hunter | Early ranged / boss | Carries early waves; full upgrades shift into boss-focused damage | Falls behind Archer and Ballista as the main ranged core |
![]() | Plebeian | Cheap utility | Baits Spartacus stun; shields stronger towers; cheap to replace | Not a primary damage dealer |
Spend A-tier credits before a full S-tier line is realistic. Legionary holds the front. Hunter bridges early ranged damage and later boss work. Plebeian is the throwaway glue that soaks bad attention so your real damage pieces keep firing.
B Tier
| Image | Unit | Role | Strengths | Weaknesses |
|---|---|---|---|---|
![]() | Forge | Support / armor setup | Pairs well with Archers; can help Clubman on armored crowd maps | Level-dependent; not always needed |
![]() | Arbalist | Situational ranged | Can shine on the right map layout | Easy credit sink when the map is wrong |
![]() | Clubman | Crowd melee | Decent against packed waves | Legionary usually covers the same job better |
![]() | Kiln | Leak cleanup DPS | Mops leaks; strong on select stages, including Pack Hunter unlock content | Support DPS, not a main carry |
Bring B-tier when a stage asks for it. Skip it as a default loadout. Forge and Arbalist swing hardest with map and level fit. Clubman is fine filler melee. Kiln cleans what slips past rather than leading the line.
C Tier
| Image | Unit | Role | Strengths | Weaknesses |
|---|---|---|---|---|
![]() | Knight | Expensive melee | Stats look fine on paper | Poor price efficiency versus Legionary or Clubman |
![]() | Torcher | Fire niche / quest tool | Fire maps; lights campfires for Pack Hunter unlock work | Weaker general ranged than Archer, Hunter, or Ballista |
![]() | Siege Workshop | Costly specialist | Can coast on easier stages | Very expensive for limited necessity without a farm tower |
Knight rarely beats cheaper melee for the same job. Siege Workshop is the clearest victim of the missing farm unit. Torcher is not your everyday ranged pick, but it still matters on fire maps and on the Pack Hunter quest path.
What to buy first
Early runs lean on Hunter and Legionary. Add Clubman only if you need extra melee bodies before Legionaries cover the front. Move into Archer and Ballista as soon as unlocks and credits allow.
Keep Plebeian ready for Spartacus bait and shielding once those fights appear. When Pack Hunter is unlocked, slot it for invisibles and keep it as a standing answer, not a one-stage gimmick.
Treat Forge, Arbalist, Kiln, Torcher, Knight, and Siege Workshop as map or quest tools, not automatic buys.
Pack Hunter unlock context
Community and editorial writeups describe lighting all campfires on Wave 18 with the Torcher ability: place Torchers near wood pallets, then re-fire through winter storms and freezes. Some community pages also mention other unlock paths. If the live quest panel disagrees, trust the panel. Kiln can help on that stage as support DPS, while Torcher is the piece the campfire steps actually need.
Keep rechecking after patches
Chrono Warfare is still unfinished. These ranks follow early August 2026 community and editorial consensus for credit-efficient PvE, not a frozen balance sheet. After updates, re-test your board in-game before locking a full credit plan around any single name.
