Clearing the haystack means balancing how fast you remove hay with how long you can keep working. A stronger tool helps, but a full bag or an overheating Vacuum can still interrupt the search for the Needle.

What to upgrade first
Watch what makes you stop collecting. If your bag fills before you want to sell, improve its capacity at the shed. Buying a faster clearing tool alone will not fix that bottleneck.
Choose a tool upgrade for the problem you are having. Pitchfork's Cooldown track addresses the wait between swings, while Vacuum's Cooling and Runtime tracks help with heat interruptions. You do not need to follow one fixed purchase order for every run.
Cash tools and round resets
Ordinary Cash-bought tools reset between rounds unless you have the matching permanent tool pass. Treat those purchases as part of the run you are playing rather than a lasting unlock.
The Hay Drone pedestal uses Gems, so it draws on a different budget from barn purchases. Drone Specialist also grants a Drone while that class is equipped.
Classes change tool performance
Forkmaster improves Pitchfork swings and lowers Pitchfork upgrade costs. Demolitionist changes Dynamite blasts. Those benefits come from your equipped class, so the same tool can behave differently when you switch classes.
FAQ
Do tools help with finding the Basement Key?
Yes. Clearing the hay exposes objects hidden in the pile, including the Basement Key. Dynamite and Vacuum can remove large areas of hay during that search.
How do I get Clan Pitchfork, Clan Dynamite or Clan Vacuum?
They are Clan Chest rewards. The barn shop sells the ordinary tool versions.
