Selling hay, finishing maps and completing clan quests reward different balances in Search For The Needle. The currency you earn determines whether you can improve a run, buy lasting upgrades or work toward Clan Chests.

Spending during a run
Spend Cash with the round you are playing in mind. A larger bag lets you carry more hay before selling, while tool purchases and upgrades help you clear the haystack. Saving run Cash for a future round will not preserve it.
Gems give you a different choice. Class rolls, permanent lobby stats and the Dog pet compete for the same saved balance. Check the purchase you want before spending Gems on another roll, especially if you are saving for Dog or a permanent upgrade.
Clan Tokens and weekly rewards
Join a clan to take part in its quests. The Clans menu tracks Tokens toward weekly Clan Chests, with ten Tokens corresponding to a chest. Tokens contribute to that reward system rather than paying for hay-clearing tools.
FAQ
Are diamond pickups a separate currency?
Diamond pickups add Gems. You do not need a separate Diamond balance to spend them.
Can I earn Gems without finishing a map?
Yes. Diamond pickups, login rewards, the group reward and reward codes can also give Gems. Clan Chests can contain Gems too.
