All 15 Mutations in Fish It

Updated on July 10, 2026 (2 days ago)

A mutation is a visual roll that sticks to a fish and multiplies what it sells for. Galaxy tops the standard ladder at 6.5x, Stone is the common entry roll, and a few names only show up with Crystal Depths gear or a Leviathan event. Shiny and Big are separate attributes, not mutations, and they can ride along on the same catch.

Location & Event Mutations

These sit outside the pure always-on money ladder. Crystallized odds improve with Crystals from Crystal Depths mining, and Leviathan's Rage only shows during Leviathan or admin events. Plan them as special targets, not everyday filler rolls.

Every catch can roll one mutation. You do not pick the name in a menu; the game rolls it while you fish, then the sell multiplier rides on that fish when you cash out. Higher multipliers pay more, but they also tend to show up less often, so the real job is stacking mutation chance without ignoring the fish you were actually trying to catch.

Mutations are not Shiny or Big

Shiny and Big are attributes. They are not mutation names and do not replace a mutation row. A fish can be plain mutated, attribute-only, or both at once (for example a Shiny Gold catch). Gear that only boosts shiny odds, like Glistening or a Shiny Totem, helps shiny rolls, not the mutation pool. Keep those systems separate when you build a loadout.

How to raise mutation odds

Stack the tools that say mutation chance, not the ones that only say shiny or size:

  • Enchants such as Mutation Hunter and Cursed raise general mutation odds
  • Gold Digger is the exception that specifically leans Gold
  • Bobbers with mutation chance help every cast while equipped
  • Mutation Totem and mutation potions from codes are temporary boosts when you want a focused farm session
  • Night fishing and Stargazer-style luck are commonly used while hunting rare looks

You still only get one mutation per fish. Stacking chance improves the roll, it does not layer two mutation names on the same catch.

Reading the multiplier ladder

On standard rolls, sell value climbs roughly like this: Stone and Albino are the frequent low-tier upgrades, Ghost through Gold sit in the comfortable mid band, then Lightning, Radioactive, and Corrupt step into serious money. Midnight and Gemstone share a 4.8x top-adjacent tier, and Galaxy sits alone at 6.5x as the highest listed standard multi. Fairy Dust matches Gold's 3.8x but is rarer on the rate table, so it feels juicier when it lands.

Frozen is confirmed as a real name across guides, but its sell multi and base rate are left blank where sources disagree. Treat it as a known look with unsettled numbers until balance data lines up.

Special routes

Crystallized is the location-boosted path. You can still see it while fishing, but odds improve when you use Crystals mined from Glowing Crystals in Crystal Depths after the Pickaxe quest unlock. Some guides spell it Crystalized; it is the same mutation.

Leviathan's Rage is event-only. It is tied to Leviathan / admin-hosted activity, not something you farm on a normal day trip. Do not plan a money route around it the way you would around Galaxy or Gold.

Common mistakes

  • Farming mutations with shiny-only gear and wondering why the mutation rate never moves
  • Selling every mid-tier roll instead of keeping a strong multi when you need cash for the next rod or bobber
  • Treating Lightning visual variants as different mutations; they still count as Lightning
  • Waiting on Leviathan's Rage or blank-rate specials when standard high multis already pay well with stacked chance gear

FAQ

Q.

What are mutations in Fish It?

Mutations are random visual modifiers that can land on a fish when you catch it. Each one multiplies the fish's sell value, so rarer high-multi names are a big part of making money.

Q.

Are Shiny and Big mutations?

No. Shiny and Big are attributes, not mutations. They can appear alone or stack with a mutation on the same fish. Gear that only boosts shiny odds will not raise your mutation chance.

Q.

Can a fish have more than one mutation?

No. A fish carries one mutation at a time. Attributes like Shiny or Big can still sit on that same fish alongside the mutation.

Q.

How do I get more mutations?

Stack mutation-chance tools: Mutation Hunter and Cursed enchants, mutation bobbers, Mutation Totem, and mutation potions. Night fishing and Stargazer-style luck are commonly used while farming. Gold Digger is the special case that targets Gold specifically.

Q.

What is the best standard mutation?

Galaxy has the highest listed standard sell multiplier at 6.5x, with a very low drop chance. Midnight and Gemstone share 4.8x just under it. For steadier cash, mid-tier rolls like Gold and Ghost land more often while you build better chance gear.

Q.

How do I get Crystallized?

It can appear while fishing, but the better path is Crystal Depths. Unlock the Pickaxe quest, mine Glowing Crystals for Crystals, then use those Crystals to improve Crystallized odds. Guides sometimes spell it Crystalized.

Q.

How do I get Leviathan's Rage?

It is event-only, tied to Leviathan / admin-hosted activity. It is not part of the always-available random pool you farm on a normal session.

Q.

Why are some multipliers blank?

Frozen, Crystallized, and Leviathan's Rage have no reconciled sell multi or drop rate in the table when guides disagree or only list the name. The mutation still exists; the number is just left empty instead of guessing.
