Fish are the whole point of Fish It. You cast at an island pool, land a catch from that location's list, sell what you do not need, and tick the species off your Fish Index. Rarity and the 1-in-X chance tell you how hard a bite is to land, while the location (and any sublocation) tells you where to stand.

Common
Easy bites that fill early Index slots and fund your first rod and boat upgrades. Most sit on starter islands with very high catch rates.

How the Fish Index works
Each fishing spot keeps its own Index list. Catch a species at that place and it fills in on that tab. Some fish only show up in a tight sublocation (Treasure Room, Sisyphus Statue, Ancient Ruin, Sacred Temple, Iron Cavern, and similar spots), so casting from the wrong dock on the same island will not fill them in.
A few species turn up in more than one pool. When that happens, any of those spots can complete the entry, but the chance can still feel different island to island. Treat the primary location on the card as the main place people fish them, and use the extra locations when you are already there.
Catch, sell, upgrade
The loop stays simple: fish, sell, spend the money on a better rod, stronger bobber or bait, a boat for farther islands, and gear that unlocks deeper water. Higher luck and better rods do not rewrite the Index, but they make Rare-through-Secret rolls show up more often so the long grinds hurt less.
Common and Uncommon fish bankroll early upgrades and pad out starter islands. Rare and Epic sit in the middle of most Index tabs: still farmable, but you will notice the wait. Legendary and Mythic are the prestige tiers for each pool. Secrets sit above that and usually want a stronger setup before the wait is worth it.
Where to go next
Start on Fisherman Island and the nearby Ocean until your rod and boat can reach further. Kohana, Kohana Volcano, Coral Reefs, Tropical Grove, and Crater Island open more lists as you push out. Esoteric Depths is elevator access, Lost Isle needs diving gear for its deeper spots, and later islands such as Ancient Jungle, Classic Island, and Pirate Cove add their own pools and secrets. When a card lists a sublocation, plan the trip for that room or statue rather than the island shoreline alone.
Secrets and limited fish
Secret fish keep permanent Index entries, but the odds are brutal (often hundreds of thousands or millions to one). A high luck floor helps: mid-to-late rods (around Midnight or Lucky and up), high-luck bobbers, luck-leaning enchants, and event luck when it is up. That is setup advice, not a guarantee. If a chance is blank on a card, no public rate is known for that fish.
Event and limited fish (Christmas Island, Hallow Bay, birthday and blood-moon style pools, and other timed lists) fill seasonal Index tabs or stay marked unobtainable when the event is over. Do not plan a permanent-island route around them unless the status on the card still says they are available.
Mid-to-late Index targets with 1-in-thousands odds. Worth camping a spot when you need that one Epic left on a tab, not when you are only grinding cash.
Seasonal or retired species, including Christmas and other timed pools. Status on the card tells you if they are still catchable or locked out after the event.
Prestige catches for each pool. Expect long sessions, and double-check sublocations so you are not fishing the wrong pocket of the island.
Top permanent tier before Secrets. Chances land in the tens or hundreds of thousands to one, often tied to harder islands or locked rooms.
The first tier that feels like a real wait on a normal rod. Use them as a checkpoint that your current island pool is actually progressing.
The rarest permanent fish. Bring a strong luck setup (better rod, high-luck bobber, luck enchants or events) and fish the listed spot for a long time. A blank chance means the rate is unknown, not that the catch is free.
Still common enough to farm, but they start spreading across more islands. Good for finishing early tabs while you save for better gear.
FAQ
What is the Fish Index in Fish It?
It is the in-game log of fish you have caught, split by fishing location. Land a species at that spot and it marks complete on that location's tab, which is how you track collection progress while you sell extras for upgrades.
Does rarity match how hard a fish is to catch?
Usually yes. Common and Uncommon land often, then Rare, Epic, Legendary, Mythic, and Secret get rarer as the 1-in-X chance climbs. A few cards have no known chance, so rarity is the only difficulty cue there.
Why does a fish list a sublocation?
Some species only roll in a pocket of the island, such as a treasure room, statue pool, ruin, temple, or cavern. Fishing the main shoreline of the same island will not fill that Index entry.
How do you improve your odds on hard fish?
Upgrade your rod, use higher-luck bobbers and bait, pick luck-friendly enchants, and fish during luck events or potions when they are available. Secrets especially want that stronger setup before long grinds feel fair.
What are event or unobtainable fish?
They come from timed or retired pools (holiday islands, special events, and similar). You may still see them on cards for Index history, but if status is unobtainable or the event is over, you cannot farm them on the permanent islands.
Can one fish appear in more than one place?
Yes. A small set of species list extra locations. Catching them at any listed spot still counts for that species, so use the extra islands when you are already there instead of making a special trip every time.
