Pick a charm for the job you are actually doing, not for the fanciest name. Target charms only help one fish (or one mutation type), so equip them at the right water and stop burning uses on casual grinding. Stat charms are the everyday layer: luck, reel speed, and fish size that play nicely with rods, bobbers, potions, and enchants.
You can only equip one charm at a time. When uses hit zero, buy or craft another unit. Stacking extras in your inventory is normal; think of each charm as a consumable buff with a location and a price tag.
When to use a secret-fish charm
Shop target charms live near the waters where their fish spawn. Algae Charm points at Cryoshade Glider on Lost Isle, Magma Charm at Magma Shark in the volcano area, Meteor Charm at Cosmic Hammerhead Shark after the observatory submarine quest, and Bone Charm at Bone Whale by the Sacred Temple. Magma Charm does not help Ancient Magma Whale, so do not treat “magma” as a free pass for every lava fish.
Before you dump coins into a target charm:
- Be high enough level for the shop (level gates sit on the cards).
- Be fishing the correct pool, not the wrong island with a matching vibe.
- Finish any unlock first (Meteor needs the Submarine Operator quest; craft charms need the Lava Basin table).
Crafted charms and the Lava Basin table
Crafted charms come from the Charm Crafting table in Lava Basin after the Magma Fisherman / Volcanic Cavern path opens. Materials come from fishing, and crafting takes time after you submit the recipe.
Hook Charm is the cheap entry craft (three Rope) and a pure luck bump. Winged Charm adds reel speed plus a little luck for longer grinds. Anchor Charm leans into bigger fish and faster reels. Oculus Charm is the broad package (reel, size, mutation chance, and a bit of luck), needs the priciest materials, and also feeds the early Withering Rod questline as a crafting material. Craft Oculus when you need the broad stats and Withering Rod progress in the same spend.
Mutation vs general luck
Mutation charms nudge a named mutation type (Radioactive in the Sewers, Pastel from the Easter Cave shop). Use them when you are farming that mutation on purpose. Boombox Charm is the low-level, low-cost general luck option from Classic Island for casual sessions.
Event charms (Heart on Heartfelt Island, Chocolate on Easter Island, Pastel Egg in Easter Cave) may only be sold while that event space is open. If you already own one, the effect still matters for event water; if the shop is closed, treat it as limited stock you cannot restock until the event returns.
Simple rules that save uses
- Match the charm to the goal: one fish, one mutation, or general stats.
- Swap off a target charm when you leave that hunt so you do not waste uses on junk casts.
- Stack charms with your best rod setup; charms multiply odds and stats, they do not replace gear.
- Check level, coin cost or recipe, and remaining uses before a long AFK auto-fish session so you do not run dry mid-grind.

How do charms work in Fish It?
Equip one charm from Items → Charms. While it is equipped, it spends uses as you fish and applies either a target-fish or mutation mult, or a stat package like luck, reel speed, or size. Charms work with auto-fishing and stack with rods, bobbers, potions, and enchants.
Do charms guarantee the fish I want?
No. Target charms only raise the chance for that fish or mutation. You still need the right location, gear, and luck from the rest of your setup.
What is the difference between secret-fish charms and crafted charms?
Secret-fish charms are coin shops near a specific catch and only help that fish. Crafted charms are made at the Lava Basin table and give broader stats such as luck, reel speed, size, or mutation chance without locking to one fish name.
How do I unlock charm crafting?
