How Evolution Items Work in Anime Adventures

Evolving takes a unit you already own and turns it into a stronger form, but it isn't a single purchase. Each unit's recipe lists the items that unit needs, along with Star Fruit and sometimes other materials. Many recipes also require the unit to reach a set number of takedowns before it can evolve.

Some items are specific to a unit, while other materials appear in several evolution recipes. Star Fruit shows up in recipes for many different units.

Which Units Can Evolve

Mythic, Legendary, and Secret units can all evolve. Not every unit in those rarities has an evolution, though, so make sure the one you want has one before you start gathering.

Some evolved forms can only be obtained by evolving. Cream (Void) and Umbra (Nuclear) are examples, so evolving is the only way to get them.

Crafting vs. the Traveling Merchant

Crafting and the Traveling Merchant are the two ways to get an item without waiting for a drop. The NPC in the Evolve room in the lobby crafts items for you if you have the ingredients. The Traveling Merchant sits outside the Summon room and sells some craftable items as well, for gems or coins.

Crafting an item costs what that item costs, which is separate from the whole evolution. So crafting one piece doesn't finish a recipe, and you still need everything else on the list.

Crafting is the dependable route, because it works whenever you have the ingredients on hand. The merchant is more of a bonus. Its stock rotates and the shop closes for stretches between visits, so the item you need may not be there when you check.

Star Fruit and Materials From Story Modes and Raids

Story modes and raids are the other main source of materials, since they can drop items as you play through them. What each stage drops varies, so check the drops before you commit to farming one.

Star Fruit deserves its own mention, since you can get it in more than one way. You can buy it from the Traveling Merchant for gems, or earn it as a prize from Star Fruit Challenges. It comes in colors like red, green, blue, and pink, and Rainbow Star Fruit is the one to plan ahead for, since some recipes need it.

How to Plan a Specific Evolution

Start by writing out the full recipe for the one unit you want to evolve. That means the unit itself, its specific items, the Star Fruit, any other materials, and the takedown requirement if it has one. Working on one unit at a time keeps the list short and stops you from gathering pieces you'll never use.

Then sort each line into one of three groups: what you can craft now, what the merchant might have, and what you need to gather from story modes and raids. The hardest pieces decide how long the whole evolution takes, so start with those and fill in the rest around them.

Takedowns are counted on the unit itself, so the unit has to be out in battles to build them up. If a recipe asks for a high count, treat it as a long-term project and start early.

Keeping Traits When You Evolve a Unit

When a Legendary unit evolves into a Mythic unit, its trait carries over. That matters most for units you've put real time into, because the setup you've built stays with them.

Do I need gold to evolve a unit?

Not always. Some recipes include gold and others don't, so the unit's own list tells you whether to save for it. Check the full recipe before you start rather than assuming every evolution works the same way.

Does evolving make a unit stronger?

Yes. Evolving can increase a unit's stats and add abilities. A stat already at SSS does not gain a higher percentage through evolution.
