Gang hideouts are the strongholds you raid once a story mission opens them, and most pay out a one-time weapon. Each one plays differently. Some have a hostage to save, some have a rancher to help, and Solomon's Folly turns into a wagon chase.

New Austin
Solomon's Folly is the bonus hideout. It launched as a PS3 exclusive and is included in the Game of the Year Edition and later re-releases.

Which hideouts count toward 100%
Every hideout counts toward 100% except Solomon's Folly, so skipping it won't hold up your 100%.
Getting the U.S. Marshal Uniform
The U.S. Marshal Uniform comes from a timed hideout challenge. The challenge unlocks after The Last Enemy That Shall Be Destroyed. Clear Fort Mercer, Gaptooth Breach, Pike's Basin, Tumbleweed and Twin Rocks within a single 24-hour in-game window to earn it. Solomon's Folly isn't part of the challenge.
The uniform is one of the outfits you need for 100%. The Red Dead Redemption outfits guide covers the rest.
Which hideouts open early
New Friends, Old Problems is only the second story mission, and it opens Solomon's Folly, Tumbleweed and Twin Rocks. That makes it the mission that unlocks the most hideouts at once.
Fort Mercer and Nosalida both wait on We Shall Be Together in Paradise. Nosalida also needs you in Mexico, so it comes after that trip.
Mistakes and extra loot
Most of these fights have a civilian or ally whose survival affects your honor, so keep them alive if you can.
- Gaptooth Breach: once Floyd tells you where the treasure is, search the mine's north-east corner.
- Pike's Basin: the chests around the tents hold extra cash.
- Fort Mercer: the upper safe holds about $70, but opening it costs honor. Decide whether the cash is worth the hit.
- Nosalida: shooting Mexican Army members turns them hostile, so keep your shots on Reyes' Rebels.
Weapons are the payoff for most of these, and the Red Dead Redemption weapons guide covers what each gun does. If you're also hunting wanted targets, the bounties guide has those, and the challenges guide covers the ambient tracks that count toward 100%.
FAQ
Can I run the hideouts again?
Yes. You can run a hideout again after about a day of in-game time. Weapon unlocks are one-time, but enemies and ordinary loot can come back on a replay.
Does this include the multiplayer hideouts?
No. Multiplayer hideout events are separate Free Roam activities in the original release.
