How random events appear
A random event marker appears when you enter its trigger area during the right story window. Some encounters happen once, some return after a cooldown, and Simeon Yetarian disappears after his short mission window closes. A missing marker is not always a bug. Los Santos occasionally respects a schedule.
Getaway Driver and Crash Rescue are worth handling carefully because helping Packie McReary and Taliana Martinez keeps them available for later heists. Killing Packie, delivering him to the Altruists as Trevor, or letting Taliana die permanently removes that recruit.
Trevor can also deliver certain passengers to the Altruists instead of taking them to their normal destination. This changes the immediate reward and can forfeit a contact or bonus. The later Altruist Cult Shootout is a consequence of those deliveries, but it does not advance random-event progress.
Progress and release differences
Social Club treats ATM Robbery as a single repeating event even though it can appear at different ATMs. Security Van encounters have their own trigger areas and return after a shared cooldown. Completing any 14 random events satisfies the random-event requirement for 100% completion.
Duel and Sea Plane were originally returning-player rewards in Enhanced releases. Monkey Mosaic appears after you photograph all 50 mosaics. These events are unavailable on PS3 and Xbox 360, so an old-generation save will never show their markers.
Easy mistakes
- GTA Online has similarly named Getaway Driver, Shop Robbery, and armored-truck activities. Their unlocks and rewards do not apply to Story Mode.
- Simeon Yetarian can only trigger between Friend Request and The Jewel Store Job.
- Drug Shootout is one-time after the suitcase patch. Older guides that call it weekly are outdated.
- An Altruist delivery can fail to register Domestic or Hitch Lift 3. Finish the normal destination first if you need the progress credit.
- Bus Tour is a repeatable random event tied to Vinewood Star Tours.
- Monkey Mosaic is the photographer encounter after the mosaics are finished, not the mosaic locations themselves.
Duel and Sea Plane were originally returning-player rewards, while Monkey Mosaic requires all 50 mosaic photographs. None of these events appears on PS3 or Xbox 360.
Rescues and lifts can pay cash, unlock a contact, or improve a skill. Trevor may trade the normal destination reward for an Altruist delivery when the passenger is eligible.
Parked and moving vans use different trigger areas and share a cooldown. They pay Story Mode briefcase cash and are unrelated to GTA Online armored-truck work.
FAQ
Does this include GTA Online random events?
No. These are GTA 5 Story Mode encounters. GTA Online Freemode events, armored-truck jobs, and similarly named Online activities use different rules and rewards.
How many random events do I need for 100% completion?
Complete any 14 random events. You do not need to finish every encounter to satisfy the 100% requirement.
Why does ATM Robbery only count once?
Social Club treats ATM Robbery as one progress event even though it can trigger at different ATMs. It may happen again, but later completions do not add more random-event progress.
Can random events unlock heist crew members?
Yes. Help Packie in Getaway Driver to unlock him as a gunman, and get Taliana to Sandy Shores alive in Crash Rescue to unlock her as a driver.
Does the Altruist Cult Shootout count toward random-event progress?
No. It is a later Trevor outcome caused by eligible passenger deliveries, not another random event that advances the requirement.
Are the Enhanced random events available on PS3 or Xbox 360?
No. Duel, Sea Plane, and Monkey Mosaic are limited to Enhanced and Expanded & Enhanced releases. Duel and Sea Plane were originally returning-player rewards.
