Getting the Mist Pickaxe in The Forge requires more than just having enough gold. You need to complete a special questline first, and many players get stuck wondering how to start and finish it. To get this pickaxe, you’ll have to do some mining and questing in the Frostspire Expanse.
To get the Mist Pickaxe, first talk to Bjorn by the docks in Frostspire Expanse. Then complete Sensei Moro’s mining quests, especially the one where you mine Ice Rocks for Neurotite and Larimar ores. After finishing, you get the Mist Pickaxe Recipe, which lets you buy the pickaxe from Miner Frank’s shop for 500,000 gold.
Start with Bjorn and follow Moro’s questline
When you arrive at Frostspire Expanse, head straight to Bjorn near the docks. He will send you to Sensei Moro, who gives you a series of mining quests. These quests are similar to ones you’ve done on other islands but focus on new ores like Neurotite and Larimar.
One key quest requires mining Ice Rocks inside the Spider Cave. To break these rocks, you need a pickaxe from the third island or better. The Aqua Pickaxe is highly recommended because it mines fast and has a good luck boost. If you don’t have it yet, mine Ice Pebbles to save up the 375,000 gold to buy the Aqua Pickaxe. Mining Ice Rocks and collecting ores
Mining Ice Rocks is the hardest part. Neurotite and Larimar are rare drops, so expect to mine quite a few rocks:
- Mine 50 Ice Rocks
- Collect 5 Larimar ores
- Collect 3 Neurotite ores
These ores don’t have special traits but are epic rarity, so they add value when forging. Mining on private servers helps avoid lag and competition.
Getting the Mist Pickaxe recipe and buying the pickaxe
Once you finish Moro’s quest, you’ll get the Mist Pickaxe Recipe as a reward. This recipe won’t show up in your inventory or forge menu, which confuses many players. Don’t worry, you don’t need to use it directly.
Just go to Miner Frank’s shop in Frostspire Expanse, and the Mist Pickaxe will be available for purchase at 500,000 gold. You must have the recipe completed to unlock this option.
What about the Mist Pickaxe stats and value?
The Mist Pickaxe is a Tier 2 pickaxe with decent stats but costs half a million gold. Compared to other pickaxes like the Aqua Pickaxe or Snow Pickaxe, it’s generally not worth the price. If you already have an Arcane or Demonic Pickaxe, it’s better to save for the Aqua Pickaxe instead. You might also want to compare it with other pickaxes like the Golden Pickaxe or the Platinum Pickaxe to decide which upgrade suits your playstyle and budget.
What if the quest or recipe doesn’t register?
There are bugs where the game might not record your quest completion or recipe unlock. If you can’t buy the Mist Pickaxe after finishing the quest:
- Try leaving and rejoining the server
- Use a private server to avoid lag
- If problems persist, report the bug on the official Forge Discord
This will help ensure your progress is saved.
Getting the Mist Pickaxe requires patience and some investment in the right tools, but now you know exactly what to do.
