Noxious is a Fisch mutation that cuts a fish's sell value to 30% of its normal price. Fish caught with the Toxinburst Rod have a 35% chance to come out Noxious, and the rod's passive adds a second route through fungus that bursts into extra Noxious fish. Both routes need the Toxinburst Rod, so building it comes first.

Craft the Toxinburst Rod at the Ancient Archives
The Toxinburst Rod is a mid-game craft from the Lost Jungle update. You make it at the Ancient Archives by turning in four parts and paying 185,000 C$. Check the level requirement of 325 before you start gathering, so you aren't holding parts you can't use yet.
The recipe takes one each of these:
- Toxic Jellymass
- Toxinburst Line
- Toxinburst Shaft
- Toxinburst Handle
Every Noxious route runs through this rod. For the full lineup, see the Fisch rods list.

How Normal Toxinburst Catches Make Noxious Fish in Fisch
Every catch with the Toxinburst Rod gets its own 35% roll for Noxious. This is the direct route, and it works on the fish you reel in without any fungus involved. Since each catch is a separate roll, a run of misses is normal, and the odds only add up across many casts.
The same rod can also roll Toxic, with a 15% chance per catch. Toxic is a different mutation from Noxious. Where Noxious cuts a fish's value, Toxic multiplies it by 6x. A Toxic fish isn't a Noxious one, so don't count one toward the other.

How the Toxinburst Passive Creates Noxious Fungus Bursts
The rod's passive is the second route, and it runs on a timer. A fungus spawns every 20 to 40 seconds and stays for 3 seconds, so there's a short window while it's on the water. Each fungus has a 20% chance to explode, and when it does, it releases 2 to 3 extra Noxious fish.
Most fungi won't explode, so treat the bursts as a bonus on top of your normal catches rather than a steady supply. Natural mutations can override the fungus mutation, which means not every fish from a burst is guaranteed to be Noxious.
Build Propagation to Keep Fungus Bursts Coming
Propagation is the rod's buildup system, and it's what makes fungus show up more often during a session. Each catch starts a one-minute Propagation timer. Any catch made while the timer is running adds 20 seconds and raises Propagation by one tier, up to tier 50.
Each tier raises the fungus spawn rate by 25%, which reaches 1,250% at tier 50. Each tier also raises the poison burst rate by 2.5%, up to 125%. At base, a poison burst grants 4% progress every 1 to 2 seconds.
In practice, Propagation rewards steady fishing more than a single good catch. Keep casting, one catch right after another, so the timer keeps getting extended and the tiers keep climbing. A long, unbroken session is how you get the most out of the passive.
Keep Noxious Fish for the Plagued Reaper Quest
The clearest reason to keep a Noxious fish is the Plagued Reaper quest. Its third stage asks you to return a Noxious Rotbloom, which moves you toward the Plaguereaver Rod.
Hold on to a Noxious Rotbloom when you catch one, so it's ready when the quest asks for it. For the full set of mutations, see the Fisch mutations list.
