Every Active Matter raid starts with one question: how much are you willing to lose? You load out at the Shelter, which sits outside ordinary reality, drop into a quantum-unstable zone, finish your objective and get out.
Your haul feeds the next run. Process Active Matter and loot at the Shelter for Credits, then spend them on weapons, ammunition and equipment. Investigations, contracts and Operative Objectives set your next goal. Some locations have gravity anomalies that let you run along walls and ceilings, and Nexus Battles is a separate PvP mode outside raids.

Game data
Rifles
Rifles cover assault, semi-automatic and bolt-action weapons. You can find them through map loot, containers and airdrops, with different routes for each weapon. Damage, recoil, weight and attachment options give you more to weigh than caliber alone.
Close-Range Weapons
SMGs, shotguns and pistols cover close fights, but each caliber needs its own ammo, and fire rate matters less than handling. Check caliber first, then handling and mounts, before you spend Credits or take a gun into a raid.
Maps and Raids
Pick a map, then pick the raid. The objective, the threats and the way out all change with the variant, so check those three before you queue.
Monsters and Anomalies
Raid threats range from armed Turned Soldiers to creatures hidden inside everyday objects. Their attacks, weak points and defeat conditions determine which fights your loadout can handle. Anomalies such as Gravity Trap also change how you move through a location.
Armor
Helmets and armor plates decide how much a hit costs you, and each piece trades protection against durability and weight. Pick what fits your Body Sleeve and the fights you expect, then check where each piece comes from before you plan around it.
Raid Contracts
Raid contract tasks include collecting materials, photographing anomalies, delivering vehicles, and winning battles. Their requirements can name a location, mode, or access tier, so match the assignment to your deployment.
Support and Special Weapons
Support weapons are the guns, drones and fire gear you bring for one specific job, like holding a position, scouting ahead or handling flames. Machine guns are easiest to compare by round, and drones by how much they carry.
Melee Weapons
Active Matter’s melee weapons run from household tools like carpet beaters and screwdrivers to bayonets, axes and a war hammer. Each entry shows damage per hit and where to find the weapon, with its in-game model. Edition extras and a starting blueprint are included, and weapons without a confirmed route show no location.
Weapon Attachments
Optics, muzzle devices and magazines let you change your weapon's sight, shot loudness, recoil and ammo capacity. Fit comes first, followed by the weight and handling trade-offs you can live with. You can unlock recipes at Monolith or get finished attachments from specific contracts and loot drops.
Collectibles
Quests and Investigations
Story quests and investigations combine raid objectives with routes to gear, recipes and follow-up quests. Some need a particular weapon or raid variant; others ask you to extract an item, capture a live specimen or place equipment. Completing a chain can also open a new raid or expand your hideout.
Steam Achievements
Steam achievements give you specific goals for raids, Shelter crafting and Hired Ops. Some ask for a particular loadout or extraction condition, while others build on repeated activities. Hidden objectives also count toward the achievement that requires every other unlock.
Active Matter gameplay tips
- Check the mode before you pack. Isolated raids are PvE and keep rival squads out, Open raids let them in, and some locations are PvPvE-only, PvP-only or PvE-only.
- Bring a teammate to your first few raids. Solo runs are the more hardcore option.
- Put the gear you can’t afford to lose in a safe container before you deploy. Death takes whatever you carry outside one, unless it’s personal.
- Start for extraction once you have your objective and the loot you came for. The whole zone vanishes with everything still inside it, so don’t wait until you’re cornered.
- Prime is a separate currency. Daily Contracts earn it, it doesn’t reset after a Harmonization, and it buys Monolith access levels, secure containers and respawn beacons.
