Rogue Legacy 2 is built around its classes, and every heir you play belongs to one of them. Each class gives your hero its own weapon, its own ability and a different way of fighting, so the same run can feel very different depending on who you get. When a hero dies, a new heir takes over, and the class you pick for that heir shapes the next run.

What Rogue Legacy 2 Classes Do
In Rogue Legacy 2, each class gives your heir a main weapon and a special ability, and those two things shape how a whole run feels. A bow user plays nothing like a heavy melee fighter. Classes also fall into broad styles. The Barbarian is sturdy and fights up close, the Ranger attacks from a safe distance, and a group of skill-based classes, including the Assassin and the Ronin, rewards precise movement and avoiding damage.
Each heir also gets a spell and a set of traits, and both are partly random. That is why two heirs of the same class can play differently. Judge a class over several runs rather than one, since the class sets the base and the rest of the heir fills in the details.
How to Unlock New Classes
The Knight is the only class you start with. Each of the others is unlocked by buying a building in your Manor, such as the Guild of Dark Arts for the Assassin or the Archery Range for the Ranger. Some buildings need an earlier upgrade bought first, so you'll often work through the Manor in order.
Gold pays for all of this, but it doesn't carry over on its own. Charon takes the gold you're still carrying when the next heir leaves for the castle, apart from any share the Living Safe keeps, so spend it in the Manor before you send them off. It's worth unlocking classes as soon as you can afford them, since every new one gives you another way to play.
Can You Change Class in Rogue Legacy 2?
No, not in the middle of a run. The choice comes up when your heir dies, and you pick the next heir from a few random options, each using a class you've already unlocked. Because the draw changes each time, you won't always get the class you want, so it helps to be comfortable with several.
Which Rogue Legacy 2 Classes Are the Best?
No single class wins every run, and the best pick depends on how you like to fight. Health is a useful way to compare them, though. Barbarian, Boxer, Dragon Lancer, Pirate and Knight have the highest health, so they can absorb more mistakes while you learn. Astromancer and Ronin have the least, so a single bad hit can end their runs quickly.
The Knight's Shield Block is also worth learning early. Time it just before a hit lands and it cancels that hit completely, while a mistimed block still cuts the damage in half. Getting that timing down can make the Knight a safer pick while you learn the game.
FAQ
What do Mastery ranks give in Rogue Legacy 2?
Mastery is tracked separately for each class, and defeating enemies with that class earns its ranks, and each class rank gives that class its own bonus, such as extra Vitality or Strength. Every rank also adds Rune Weight, and the bonuses are permanent and apply to all your heirs.
What are Fabled weapons in Rogue Legacy 2?
Fabled weapons change the weapon a class uses, and they don't add any new classes. They turn up at random in Curio Shoppes for any class, where they replace your current weapon, and the Fabled Classes that start with them are bought in the Soul Shop. Many come with a drawback, so check that trade-off before you take one.
Do the classes I unlock stay unlocked?
Yes. Manor purchases are permanent, so once a class is unlocked it stays in the draw for every heir after that.
