Armor sets are groups of five matching pieces of gear that your hero wears in Rogue Legacy 2. Each set has its own stats and strengths, and wearing several pieces from the same set builds up unity, which unlocks extra bonuses as you go. Players can collect and keep track of every set in the game as they unlock them.

What Armor Sets Are and How They Help
Each armor set is a group of five pieces that cover your weapon, helm, chest, cape and trinket. Every piece adds its own stats, so your hero's protection, damage and other numbers shift as you suit up. The sets also differ in what they focus on. Some build defense or vitality, some lean toward strength, intelligence or magic, and a few help your hero heal, so the set you pick usually depends on how you fight.
How Unity Bonuses Build Up
Unity is the meter that tracks how much of one set you're wearing. Each regular piece adds a fixed amount to its own set's unity, and the trinket adds twice as much. Once a set reaches 20, 50 and 100 unity, it unlocks a bonus at each level, and the higher levels usually give bigger rewards. Getting a set to its top level takes the most matching pieces, so it's a natural goal if you like to collect.
How to Unlock and Buy Armor Sets
Most armor has to be unlocked before you can buy it. You find armor blueprints in chests around the castle, and each one you find unlocks that gear for purchase. The blacksmith at the docks sells it for gold and ore, but you first need to buy the Blacksmith upgrade in the Manor.
Some sets take longer to reach. Their blueprints only start showing up in the harder New Game+ runs, so it can take many attempts before you have a full set.
Armor Weight, Carry Capacity and Upgrades
Every armor piece has weight, and heavier sets often give bigger stat boosts but are harder to carry. White Wood and Black Root are the heaviest sets in the game. They trade away Vitality and Armor for huge boosts to Focus (White Wood) or Dexterity (Black Root). Your carry capacity grows through Manor upgrades, so it's worth building it up alongside your gear so the strongest sets are actually usable.
Upgrading a piece makes it stronger and raises the unity it adds to its set. The catch is cost, since upgrade prices climb fast and some sets are much more expensive to improve than others.
Which Armor Sets Are Worth Chasing
The best set depends on where you are in the game, because a set that's strong early can fall behind later. Leather is the starting set and is usually meant to be replaced. Warden is one of the best early picks, though enemies catch up to it in the middle of the game.
Sanguine is a strong middle-game choice because its Unity bonuses add Lifesteal, which heals your hero when you defeat enemies, along with return damage that strikes back at enemies that hit your hero. The strongest sets come late and are the hardest to get. Kin gives some of the biggest stat boosts, and its top Unity bonus grants one revive, but it doesn't start dropping until New Game+2. Gilded sits near the bottom for fighting, but it's a farming set, so its Unity bonuses raise Ore, Aether and Gold gains.
FAQ
Do armor sets stay unlocked when my hero dies?
Yes. Gear you buy or upgrade stays unlocked on your save, so the next heir you pick can wear it even if the hero who bought it died.
Can I wear pieces from different armor sets together?
Yes. Each piece still gives its own stats, so mixing is a way to get the strongest stats from several sets. The trade-off is that unity only builds from matching pieces, so you'll reach the 50 and 100 bonuses less often.
Which armor set is best for magic heroes?
Scholar is the standout for magic. It boosts Focus and adds random magic critical hits, which helps all magic damage, including spells and talents. Crescent is the only chest piece in the game that raises Intelligence, and Leviathan's unity bonuses provide healing for hybrid and caster heroes.
Is the Leather armor set worth wearing?
Leather is the first set you'll wear, and it's the lightest, which keeps your weight class low. It gives a bit of bonus Resolve, but its protection is weak, so it works best for heroes who dodge well.
