Green Hell is a survival game set in the Amazon jungle, and the plants growing there are a big part of staying alive. Some fill your stomach, some can be turned into bandages or remedies, and a few will make you sick if you eat them the wrong way. Knowing what each plant does and how to prepare it saves a lot of trouble on your first trips into the jungle.

Edible Plants, Trees and Palms: Carbs, Water and Fat
Food plants cover different needs, so it helps to know what each one gives you. Cassava, bananas and heart of palm are all good sources of carbs. Bananas grow in bunches of two to five, and heart of palm comes from cutting a Young Palm Tree. Cocona, an orange fruit, gives you carbs and water at the same time.
For fat, look to trees and palms. Brazil nuts, which grow on the huge trees in the jungle, are the big fat source. Coconuts add fat too, and so do the Unknown Nuts from raffia palms.
Cooking Plants and Curing Food Poisoning
Some plants make you sick when eaten raw. Cassava causes food poisoning raw, but once it's cooked or boiled, it's safe to eat. Unknown Mushroom 2, the veiled one, does the same raw, but it's fine dried or cooked into soup.
If you do get food poisoning, a water lily flower cures it, and the leaves of Unknown Herb Plant 2 help too.
Medicinal Herbs for Venom and Fever
Medicinal herbs are what you reach for when something goes wrong. Venom from snakes and scorpions drains your health until it's removed, so it needs fast action. Tobacco is the herb to learn first, since it can be bandaged or stewed to pull the venom out. Plantain lily also treats venom when eaten, bandaged or stewed, and Molineria leaves become leaf bandages for wounds.
Fever is a different problem. Sleeping in a bed helps you get through a mild one, a Quassia Amara infusion brings it down, and Unknown Mushroom 7, a red and white mushroom from the caves, brings a fever down. It costs a lot of hydration, though, so keep some water on hand.
Mushrooms for Parasites, Energy and Sanity
Mushrooms grow in different places, from logs and tree roots to caves, so it pays to know where to look. Parasites are one reason to hunt for them. They raise how much food you use up, so you get hungry much faster.
Indigo Blue Leptonia, a blue-white mushroom that grows on the roots of big trees, clears parasites and restores energy. Unknown Mushroom 1, an orange cup that grows on logs, clears a parasite as well. Unknown Mushroom 5 is small and yellow, and it gives a little sanity. Unknown Mushroom 6, a green fungus from caves, is tied to both Story mode and Spirits of Amazonia.
Story Plants: Psychotria and Banisteriopsis
Psychotria and Banisteriopsis are Ayahuasca ingredients in Story mode, so they're worth keeping an eye out for as you explore.
Growing Plants at Camp
Growing plants at camp takes some of the pressure off hunting for wild fruit. Seeds come from fruit you find in the wild, and herbs like tobacco, Molineria and plantain lily grow from a dried flower. Plant them in a planting box or a small planting box and keep them watered.
Which Plants Matter Most
If you only learn a few, start with venom and parasites. Venom drains your health until it's removed, and parasites make you burn through food, so these threats hit the hardest. Tobacco and plantain lily cover venom, while Indigo Blue Leptonia and Unknown Mushroom 1 deal with parasites. After those, cassava and Brazil nuts are the foods worth knowing.
FAQ
How much fat does a Brazil nut give in Green Hell?
Each Brazil nut gives 35 fat, so a few of them make a real difference when you're short on fat.
Is a tobacco bandage better than tobacco stew?
For a wound, yes. A bandage removes the venom and also heals the wound over time, while a stew only removes the venom.
Does any mushroom glow in Green Hell?
Yes, Unknown Mushroom 4. It's yellow and glows at night, so it's easy to spot after dark.
Is it better to stew water lily flowers?
Yes. Eating one cures food poisoning, but stewing it works better.
